The Merida English Library is in itself very interesting, but it doesn't stop there. They offer several tours in and around Merida. We did the 3 house tour that is offered from the Library every Tuesday morning. There were 100 people the day we went and we were split into 3 groups. The local houses visited were lovely and it... The MEL holds a H & G tour most Tues. at 10:00 sharp. Get there at 9:30 for orientation. Tour is a walking tour & lasts 1-1 1:2 hours. Wear comfortable shoes. THe most unassuming houses become Jewels inside. Saw three very different homes. Couldn't get over the age of the homes & the modernizing that had taken place. If... More

This was a very pleasant surprise, with time to meet others, hear an excellent talk by Brice about the history of Merida and its architecture, and then take an amazing house and garden tour - to a private mansion, a boutique hotel, and a rental property for visitors. A really good window into Merida's history and unique building styles and... More

Merida English Library or MEL for short is a great resource for the expat community and visitors alike. More than just a library, although there are english language books to check out and some used ones for sale, it is a source for knowledge about Mérida and the Yucatan. The volunteers are happy to answer your questions about most any... More

We visited the library for their house tour. It was preceded by a pleasant talk in their lovely shaded garden. The talk gave us some insights into Merida as well as an opportunity to ask questions. The house tour was a fascinating look at 3 local houses, beautifully renovated and each one quite unique. The staff was warm and welcoming.... More

I attended a Monday night Spanish conversation event, where attendees were grouped by whether they wanted to practice English or Spanish, and then provided a host to guide a casual conversation. The library also hosts other events, and has an impressive number of books for checking out. I look forward to visiting the Merida English Library again.

First off, the place is absolutely lovely. This was a private home donated by the founder of the library. The staff is very welcoming and the library itself offers a variety of activities. The house tour is wonderful. As captioned above, three houses are visited after a talk on the history of Merida. It's well worth the cost for those... More

This charming library has a good selection of books, and lots of activities, too. I really like the walking tours they do to see some of Merida's beautiful homes.

First - double check the day and time here- it varies during the year. We visited 3 homes after a 30 minute talk on the history of Merida and its architecture. The money from your ticket goes to support the library Very interesting rehab scene going on here- fun to see what hides behind Merida walls and doors
