Total Rip Off!

People were very friendly, but would not take "NO" for and answer! We kept telling them we were part of a group and didn't want to miss the shuttle. They said "no worries, if they leave without you, we can get you to the next stop to meet them." I think there was an arrangement between the shuttle and the... More

Staff very polite and courteous. Free tequila before the sales pitch begins, they attempt to seperate you as a couple, one plying me with free tequila while another shows the Mrs all sorts of jewellery. Completely pressured the other half into 300USD worth of tat. Amusingly we saw the exact same stuff in another store for 17USD lesson learnt, not... More

BEWARE - told $100 to buy a piece of jewellery but they charged $250 US to my card. he said it was pesos... I should have checked better. All very smiley - clearly prey on unsuspecting tourists. Karma will bite them I'm sure

My experience here was similar to others who wrote. It was extremely hot and humid that day and I was shown earrings I liked but knew I couldn't afford. However, I felt pressured to buy because they kept after me and lowered the price to the "best they could offer". I just wanted out of there to go back to... More

Scam artists to say the least. They wrote a number on the receipt held their finger over the fifth number. So a necklace I assumed was $200 they charged me $2000. Fortunately I checked my statement and caught this before we left Mexico. Unfortunately i had to pay for the ferry to do the return. Store gave me a hard... More

Mandatory stop via "Cancun Sailing" excursion to get "boarding pass" to get back on boat for return trip to Cancun. People there were *very* nice, offering free bottled water left and right, AC'd shop, lots of t-shirts, mostly jewelry, but it was probably mostly tourist-grade jewelry, I wasn't all that impressed. But, the t-shirts and trinkets were interesting way in... More

Bought a "Mexican Fire Opal" from this store across from the ferry. Looked legit with guards out front etc. Brought it to my jewelry store and found it was a fake. Even the setting which he claimed to be white sapphire was cubic zirconia. The jeweler said the best thing I did was use american express.Working on a dispute with... More

I was driving the golf cart and looking for a place to park when a gentleman hailed me and invited me to park next to his liquor store. I passed on his offer of tequila samples but did go across the street to the Opal Company. All of the folks working there were very friendly and patient. I purchased earrings... More

Fire Opals by Ricardo on Av. Juarez is a bit off the beaten path. It is one block over from the ferry terminal exit on a quiet stretch of Juarez, next to Aqua Adventures Divers. This was the first Opal store on the island. Ricardo has been selling and custom making quality jewelry for 20 years. He is friendly, honest,... More

If you are traveling to Mexico, I would suggest to go for the fun and the sun. STAY AWAY from jewelry stores, specifically Opalo Company. They have several stores in Mexico. We were on Isla Mujeres and were unfortunately coaxes into going in their store. They are super friendly and treat you like family, but they think nothing of selling... More
