Although not as popular as Chichén Itzá, these ancient Mayan ruins are noteworthy in their own right, as this is the site where Mayan women paid tribute to the goddess of love and fertility.

The ruins are damaged a lot but there is so much Mayan history and our guide Silvia from the bus tour was excellent. The history came alive as she told of the ancient people and their customs. This would be a tour worth taking again. It is people like Silvia that make a usual tour into a interesting and informative... More

It was pretty interesting. We went there on a busy day, so there were no tour guides available for us. We just walked around and read the signs, which gave some information. Clearly they are guessing about how these buildings may have been used 600-1000 years ago. We would probably have gotten more out of it with a guide, but... More

If you find yourself on Cozumel and enjoy the history of the area your visiting, I totally recommend this attraction. For $25 you can get a guide to take you through the grounds and give you a sense of the land and the people who used to live here. Not very big and you could be done in an hour... More

Our guide was very informative about Mayan history and culture. The ruins were not as large as Tulum but the history and story of this site was informative. If visiting I suggest going with a guide to learn the history of this site. Our tour also included a trip across the island for some time at the coast.

we went on this as an excursion package from Holland cruise line and was surprised on how knowledgeable our guide was at explaining all the buildings and ruins.

I cam here with friends as our cruise ship docked at the port, we rented a car and drove, took us roughly 30 minutes to get here. Now we had just visited the Cahal Pech Ruins in Belize the day before so seeing this one it just wasnt that interesting. These are super old and pretty much falling apart. We... More

We stopped at San Gervasio as part of our ‘Cozumel Experience’ with Cucurumbe Tours. We were very happy with the knowledgeable guide who gave us a great overview of the site including how it tied into to the other ruins throughout Mexico. Although the site does not look like it has had a lot of restoration, there are numerous structures... More

We had an excellent tour guide, Cesar, who really brought this place to life. We are birders and enjoyed the birding their even more. The trees were alive that day with birds, and we enjoyed the iguanas also. Took bug spray but didn't need it, didnt encounter one bug.

This location is interesting, but if you don't have a tour guide, you're probably completely lost. Ours was very knowledgeable (through a Royal Caribbean shore excursion) and was of Mayan descent, so he had some nice insights and history to share. I would definitely recommend a visit for anyone looking for some history without being overwhelmed.
