This ruin has so many beautiful and intricate carvings on the exterior walls. Very ornate (especially to consider it back in the day with colorful painting).

We had a Mayan guide who interpreted the Mayan hieroglyphics for us. We were the only people there as most people don’t walk over here. It’s by the observatory. Great stone carvings.

Chichen Itza means the town of the rain priests temples....... And that is what this structure really is (not a church) This temple is dedicated to CHAC MOOL, the ancient god of Rain.... This is an early mayan structure, made when the mayans didnt know Kukulcan , the feathered snake the Toltecans brought with them.... Back then, Chichen Itza was only dedicated to the rain cult of Chac Mool.

Part of the "Las Monjas" complex, La Iglesia is a small but very beautiful building adorned by mosaics and wonderful Cha'ak masks. No access to the interior is available but traces of stucco still remain on parts of the roof.

The Church or La Iglesia as the Spaniards called it is on the southern side of Chichen Itza, after the Observatory.
It's built for Chaac, the Rain God during the earlier period.

La Inglesia is a short walk away from the main plaza of Chichen-Itza. It is adorned with intricate carvings and it also has hoops from the game that was played in that era.

Named la Iglesia (the Church) by the Spanish, probably because it was located right next to the Nunnery, this temple is one of the oldest buildings at Chichén Itzá. It is of classic Puuc construction with an overlay of central Yucatan styles. The structure itself is rectangular with a single room inside and an entrance on the west side. One of the most photographed buildings at Chichen Itza, it’s exterior is almost completely covered with veneer decorations. Masks of Chac decorate two upper stories. Among the crowd of Chacs there are also an armadillo, a crab, a snail, and a tortoise. These represent the Maya gods, called bacah, whose job it was to hold up the sky.

A small yet stunning building located right next to the Nunnery, La Iglesia (The Church) is memorable for its extensively decorated exterior, the masks with big hooked noses in particular. This is a fairly well-preserved structure inside the Chichen Itza site. Also off-limits to the public.

The so-called “Iglesia” is a small building next to Las Monjas with a single internal space and an access door that make it resemble a chapel hence its name. When it was discovered for the first time it stood out for its good state of conservation and for the richness and beauty of its Puuc style decorations which reminded me of those previously seen in Uxmal.
