Looks like crystal clear water in all shades of green and blue. However we found out that the town is growing so quickly that the sewers are not big enough to protect the lake. Especially after heavy rains some of it spills to the lake. Hopefully it is going to be resolved before this fragile ecosystem will be destroyed.

Very picturesque! Truly seven different colours to this beautiful lake. Definitely a great detour to your Mexican holiday. Plenty of places to join a boat tour along the shore. Three days is plenty to visit Laco Bacalar. Lots of great restaurants places to stay. Be aware that every Wednesday the lake is ‘CLOSED’, that is to say that no watercraft of any sort including kayak or paddle board is permitted on the lake. According to the locals, this gives the lake a rest. The lake is patrols by police on this day.

We had a great time! Amir is wonderful, and the lagoon is amazing. Everything worked according to plan, and we had time for everything. He cut fresh fruit for us in the middle of the lagoon and we had a refreshing meal. He also let us enjoy our time there without stressing us out. Very recommended and a unique adventure.

This excursion offered by the cruiselines when you visit Costa Maya, needs to be shut down or elliminated. Yes, it takes at least 90 - 120 minutes to reach this destination. However, there is no beach or access to the water of the Lagoon except for a wooden dock that is in dire need of repair. Every wooden board is loose or broken and it is nearly impossible to reach the end of it where you enter the water. Furthermore the two ladders that enter the lagoon are also broken (both missing the bottom rung). And the top two rungs are slippery with algae and other marine life that has never been removed. This place is not safe and in fact is dangerous. The lagoon is clear beyond the dock, but loaded with seagrass and other things near the shoreline. Don't waste your money on this place. Again it is dangerous.

Lake Bacalars crystal clear, warm waters simply have to be experienced. It is truly a natural wonder. There are a number of piers all over Bacalar jetting into the lagoon from which one can jump straight into the water. One thing, don't wear your sunscreen in the water as it kills the PH and the creatures living in the water.

The pictures do not give enough justice to its colours. It has amazing looking spots and a very interesting story, as weel of the importance of its ecosystem. Stronatolites here present are unique to here and Australia only! Please be responsible to preserve this place!

Took this tour through our cruise ship - long drive, but it was beautiful! The guides were great, but over controlled us. They kept us very close...

We drove from Tulum to Bacalar once we heard about the Lake of Seven Colors. 2.5 hours later, we arrived. It was worth the drive. $1 to get into the beach area where there are shops, restuarants, snorkeling, seadoo rentals, boat tours etc. This is such a beautiful place. The water is 7 colors of blue and crystal clear. The town of Bacalar is still pretty basic, but beautiful. Like anywhere we have been Mexico, the people were great! We will be revisiting Bacalar again.

Amir Tours did a magnificent job of sharing the magic of the Barcalar Lagoon. The Captain Filipe and Sailer Luna were organized, friendly and competent. The nine of us boarded on time and set out to explore this fresh water lake fed by cenotes. After a safety lecture, we visited the “Pirate Island” where pirates would come in from the Caribbean to plunder. Next we visited three cenotes and learned how they supplied water for the lagoon. We learned how the colors were created depending on the depth of the water and what was on the bottom. We were served a delicious lunch of fresh fruit and bread. And the drinks were not stop! Our last stop was at the bird sanctuary where birds come to rest on the yearly migration paths.
The boat was stable and large enough for you to move around. Access into and out of the water was easy and the crew both assisted if needed.
Several of us agreed that this was the most enjoyable and relaxing afternoon. I would highly recommend you book this tour to have an informative and magical experience.

Took the Royal Caribbean excursion Bacalar Fort and Seven Color Lagoon. We only drove by the fort, which didn't look too impressive to me. But the lagoon.... it was absolutely amazing!!! It is this huge freshwater lagoon, fed by cenotes. It was crystal clear and clean and the sand was super white and soft. It was a bit of a long bus ride to get there, but the lagoon did not disappoint!!! We also have a delicious lunch before heading back to the port. I would tell you to just do this excursion!! You won't regret it!

We did this through Carnival but you can also book it through other companies.
Just google it.
Where do you keep your dry clothes while tubing? Were there lockers available to rent? Were there showers or changing rooms?

Do you have to paddle the tube the whole way? Do you take a boat to the tubes? Do I see the fort as well

You do paddle a good bit to be sure you stay within the current of the river, but the guides were there the entire time to make sure everyone stayed together (even my kids). You take a tour bus from the port to the location and back; I think it was like an hour ride. The ride was well worth it though. I don't remember seeing any fort.

Hi there, as far as I remember the entrance fee to the lake was very cheap it was like 40 pesos, and then you can check inside for the boat tour to see all the lake or there are other different options.
