La Antiqua is a small but beautiful town. There needs to be an investment by Mexican govt. to revitalize this area. Casa de Hernan Cortes is overgrown by trees. The Hummingbird river has boat tours and a nice bridge but a lot of stores and hotels have left and the area is struggling. This was the Old Veracruz and the government has abandoned it.

Make sure you visit this place with a good tour guide not just get someone to drive you there. This place and it's surrounds is full of so much history.

This is the place where all the commercial exchange began when the Spanish were here, this was the first port and the house was the first customs office. There will be kids that will happy explain to you the history of the place and walk you around for a tip (50 - 100 pesos) this is their only way of living and I recommend "hiring" one since they can tell you where are the locals places to eat and hire tours to the virgin beach nearby.

I have visted la Antigua Veracruz many times in my lifetime. This last time, I found the house of Cortes well protected. There is a fence in front of the house and the access is a bit more controlled. You can hired a local person to explain you the story of the place and some other in town.

If you dont get a guide you wont be amazed by the magic of the place. Of course, this is going to be boring if nobody explains to you what happened there. There are a lot of kids who knows the history by hard they are excellent in what they do.

I go past this area everyday on the way to and from work. I really love the ruins - and trees that engulf them! I think this would be a terrific addition to a trip to Cempola- neither is huge- and they are different from each other.

I enjoy Mexican history, so to see a structure that was built during the conquest in the old Vera Cruz was fascinating.

This will be a hit for anyone looking for a good look at nature. The house itself isnt so spectacular or historical but what is striking is how nature has takeb over the house through a century. It would be nice if this place was developed more into a natural attraction to bring in more visitors. I liked it and my girlfriend loved the place!

A short distance from the city of Veracruz. It is a small town with some seafood restaurants. The house itself is only a shell, but its still easy to visualize what it looked like.
