It was the perfect time to visit the plaza as the day was sunny with blue skies and some slight breeze. The plaza was filled with lots of people just hanging out, probably resting, vendors around the plaza and travelers enjoying the place. It was a little crowded because it was during the holidays and everyone wanted to take pictures of the creative design of the poinsettias. Whoever design this, did an awesome job. A nice place to see over the weekend .

The plaza is in the Zocolo. A great place for people watching as well as shopping and eating around the plaza. Plenty of places to just sit and relax. I had to wait a long time for fellow shoppers and for the tour bus and it wasn't an issue at all.

We loved everything about Taxco. We normally stay away from very touristy places and Taxco certainly is touristy, but it seemed to us to be mainly Mexican tourists. We didn't see any tourist busses or large groups with guided tours. And we were even there on Dia de Muertos. The square is a lovely and one of the prettiest plaza's we've seen in Mexico. It's surrounded by beautiful colonial houses with red tilled roofs. everything is kept in white and dark red which really adds to the beauty of this place. A special and very charming feature are the 200 original white beetle taxis that climb the steep streets of Taxco. We could sit for hours under the trees and watch all the beetles drive by. We even made a miniature video with all the cars that you can see on Youtube (Beetles in Taxco, un Pueblo Magico, Mexico). On the night of Dia de Muertos there was a small but lovely parade on the square and the kids were doing "trick or treat". The restaurants on the square are not fantastic and a bit overpriced. But most of them have an upstairs balcony with amazing view over the square.

This busy plaza is always buzzing with activity. People from all over the world can be found here in the silver shops, cafes and restaurants. Beautiful traditional baskets, wall hangings, painted pottery and the like can be bought for a song from the multitude of indigenous street vendors selling their handmade products. Extremely friendly locals and plentiful helpful police make this plaza feel very safe.

Where the locals hand out. As it was a Saturday afternoon and a fiesta or two were happening the place was really alive

A pleasant, shady plaza in front of the cathedral, filled with trees, people chatting and playing, little kids with their mothers, birds. A great place to relax before or after exploring the winding paths of the market place with all the fruits and vegetables and housewares.

I, along with my family, loved hanging out at the Plaza Borda for a few hours. It is beautiful and wonderful for people watching and shopping for silver if that is your thing. The interior of the Catholic church is capable of causing sensory overload. Just sit in the church and take your time observing all the architectural features. It is worth it!

The Plaza has it all, good food (that I will review separately), good coffee (as a Cuban-American I was impressed by Cafe Punto del Cielo's Cuban coffee), delicious nieves and helados (icees and ice cream at Tepoznieves).

My one caution: From the moment you pull into Taxco you will be bombarded by young men wanting to give you tours, show you where to park, and sell you stuff. They work for tips, and while I admire their industriousness, I for the most part wanted to be left alone and explore around on my own with my family. That is just how I prefer to experience a new place. Also, no matter where you go, you are bombarded by knick knack vendors and people trying to get you into their restaurants. Try not to let this aspect of Taxco be too off-putting; it is definitely a place you'll want to visit.

The Plaza Borda is one of the most beautiful town squares that I have ever visited. Taxco is built on the side of a mountain and stretches upwards and downwards from its central square Plaza Borda. At that level, it is very similar to Amalfi or one of the other Italian towns along the Naples/Sorrento coastline. What enhances both the Plaza and Taxco altogether is that nothing is allowed to be altered in favour of tourism, money or just plain old easier living. The houses, the buildings, the central square are all amazing, but the jewel in the square's crown is the Iglesia de Santa Prisca. Standing in a corner of the Plaza, this magnificent church, with its Churrigueresque facade and ornate sculptures, dominates Taxco. No expense was spared in its construction between 1751 and 1758. The church, with its solid silver sculptures inside, was paid for by Joseph de la Borda, who had made his own fortune by discovering important and large deposits of silver around Taxco. What a gem!

Although a bit touristy, Taxco's tourists are mostly from Mexico City…it's not the Mayan Riviera overrun with Americans. The Plaza Borda is a great place to sit, watch the people, listen to the mariachis and marvel at the hundreds of white Volkswagon taxis which constantly go around the square.

Mira a la descripcion del zócalo. It is the same place, and it is corresponding nicely with the church. Contemplation and admiration, inside looking out, outside looking in?
