Window into pre-Columbian history
Apr 2021
Not only does this private museum instruct the viewer (in Spanish only, by the way) in the different varieties of jade, by detailing this precious stone's uses in Mesoamerica, it also offers a window into pre-Columbian cultures, from before the Olmecs on. except for one piece in its own special case, all the "artifacts" are copies.

Cool layout. Pretty small though

You can spend an hour here and then go around the corner to the cacao museum. Great info. Mostly replicas. Friendly staff. Very informative just small.

Interesting display of Mayan jade objects
Dec 2019 • Solo
This is actually a part of a jewelry shop. The Museum houses a very interesting display of replicas of jade objects found in Mexican archeological sites. There is a booklet that you can use to guide you through the display cases. Very informative as to the origins of each object and where the original is now housed, usually in museums outside of the country. Entry fee of 30 p.

Good pieces
May 2019 • Couples
It is an interesting museum with original pieces that show the use of jade in this Mesoamerican region, in the end it is the store with Jade products, they are not cheap given that Jade is a Jewel. but there are pieces that are accessible and they are also certified with authenticity.

Small museum but worth visiting
May 2019 • Solo
After you buy your ticket to enter the Jade Museum one of the employees gives you a quick introduction about the museum and the process on how they get the jade. After the introduction you see the museum on your own. They have information on the Aztecs, Olmecs, Toltecs, Mayas. Do not forget to look at the very interesting information on the Maya king Kinish Janaab Pakal. Also pay attention to the sign because there is one room where photography is not allowed. It is not a large museum so you will be out quickly to continue visiting other places in San Cristobal de las Casas.

JADE TO BUY!!
Mar 2019 • Friends
A lot of information of the Jade found in south Mexico and central America. It is a small place but very nicely kept. Beautiful jade jewelry shop.

Fabulous gift shop!
Nov 2018 • Friends
If you want to see high quality jade (not the stuff sold on the street), then stop by the "museum" and take a look. It is a large gift shop which also has a small selection of souvenirs. Prices are not inexpensive, but these are quality items.

Exit in the Gift Shop
Oct 2018 • Couples
This is really a glorified gift shop with a small area with some impressive jade works. The court yard at the entrance is well appointed with a small coffee shop in it. The museum itself is small and we had a guide through it which was interesting. Then the typical exit through the gift shop where very high end merchandise is sold. There is a section of where the stone is being polished and cut. Worth a stop (has very clean nice washrooms). It is free to view and walk around.

small museum with a nice selection of jade pieces
May 2018 • Couples
There is only so much you can do when your focus is a single stone, but this museum had a decent collection. Lots of colors, a variety of sizes, from different parts of the world.

It wasn't too expensive, and it didn't take too long to go through, but since it was right across the street from where my husband and I had breakfast we figured we'd check it out. It was worth the time and money just don't go expecting to be overwhelmed.

Meh
Oct 2017 • Solo
This little museum didn't do a thing for me, but it was something to do. The displays and presentation were unimpressive, and the staff politely bored.
