Our class exceeded all our expectations about learning to cook Mexican foods, understanding Oaxacan foods, and becoming acquainted with local food wizards! Esperanza is a natural teacher; warm, responsive, knowledgeable and well-organized. Throughout the day, at the Market and in the kitchen, we were in good hands. The class moved swiftly and before we knew it we had prepared several... More

I've done numerous cooking classes abroad but I have to say this one will stand out for me for a while! I did not expect to have so much fun or laugh half as much as I did whilst learning too cool one of most favorite cuisines with oaxacas best! We did the vegetarian menu, the usual suspects such as... We were greeted at our hotel by Esperanza, who took us on a fun shopping trip through the mercados to select ingredients for our cooking class. We had the option to choose our menu and we enjoyed making and eating salsa, guacamole, 2 types of chili relleno, and refried beans. But the best was yet to come! We then went... More

We had a lot of fun at this course. I echo other comments re: the informality and humor but this was not a problem for us. Agustin is a character for sure. Unfortunately he has recently had a rather nasty accident and isn't getting along so well health-wise, so he gave us the market tour but the cooking training was... More

We cooked a 24 ingredient mole negro that turned out especially delicious. Esperanza, the cook, although not speaking much English is an excellent instructor. This place is not fancy and is not recommended for people with handicaps as the stair to the kitchen is a narrow spiral. Agustin is an interesting and funny dude who speaks good English and supplied... More

We had a great time with Agustin and his partner Esperenza, but this is not your proper, well-organized, crisply executed cooking class. It started with gay jokes and f-bombs, proceeded to mescal tasting at 11AM, and followed with a full day of cooking. Accompanied, as it was, with a proud stream of sexual innuendos, stereotypes, gay bashing and swearing, clearly... More

My boyfriend and I had an excellent time with Agustin at his cooking class. The tour through the market in the morning was awesome. Afterwards, we made DELICIOUS tamales (in banana leaves as well as in corn husks) as well as quesadillas, guacamole, memelas, and plantain chips for dessert. Agustin and his cooking partner Esperanza were super helpful, really fun,... More

Was a great authentic experience. Not a fancy cooking class, but a true Mexican one. The market shopping was really nice, we had a nice time cooking and the food was really good! Agustin is a great funny dude, and a very interesting guy. If you want to taste, and learn to cook real Mexican salsas, Agustiny's cooking class is... More

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful day at Augustin's cooking class. It's quite informal but Augustin goes out of his way to make sure you are happy! The course went for about 6 hours, and started with a visit to the market before heading back to his place to cook up. The food was delicious (and not just because... More

My daughter and I took a cooking class from Agustino in December. We really enjoyed it. It was great learning to make mole from scratch (even if we may only try it once again.) We liked that we learned to make the sauces which are the foundation of much Mexican cooking -- and how to use those sauces (and other... More
