Like many churches in Mexico it was a nice stop on the way to visit other sites. Well preserved, and ornate.

We arrived here by private taxi on a Sunday. A service was going on, so we didn’t feel comfortable walking all over the church and remained towards the rear. The outside seems so simple, so I was surprised to find such a beautifully painted church...More

We had never heard of Tlacochahuaya. Our guide suggested we add it to a day trip to Mitla, Yagul and the Tule tree. It was just about the highlight of the day. The story of the building of the church is rich and interesting. The...More

This place is worth a visit. 20 minutes is enough. A tour guide is recommended. Not much more to see nearby.

Construction of this church was interrupted by the civil war. Located in a quiet neighborhood but easily accessible. The original organ was being rebuilt when we visited.

Do not miss seeing the organ in the choir loft. The contrast between this church and St. Dominic Guzamen in Oaxaca is striking.

This may be my favourite church in all of Mexico. The interior walls are painted in festive flowers, and the statues are impressive. There is also a painting of a seated Virgen de Guadalupe that may be unique, as she is always shown standing within...More

If you're visiting Oaxaca, San Jeronimo's Temple in Tlacochahuaya is a must-see. On the outside it's just like any other mexican 16th century catholic church, nothing relevant. But it's the minute you walk in that you understand why you have to visit this church. All...More

This should be corrected. It is NOT in Puerto Escondido, but a few miles from Oaxaca City . It is worth a visit, and takes a short time to admire the church.

I used to live in Oaxaca (the city) and now live in Pto Escondido. I love the town and the church in Tlacochahuaya. Leaving from Oaxaca you can be there in your own car in about 30-40 minutes. It is on the same route as...More
