I'd studied Magic realism at University and wondered what Garcia Marquez et al were on when reading the slightly hallucegenic fantastical spiritual stories... BUT after doing the FOLK ARTS OF OCOTLAN tour I kinda get it now.... This was trip on the face of it to find out about the potters & craftspeople of the surrounding villages of Oaxaca. Pottery;... Not enough people signed up for the Tortilla, Food for the Soul, full day tour, so we were able to work out a half day tour for the two of us. We are so happy it worked out! We visited a home of a tortilla maker, then to the mill, and then back to make the tortillas. After this, we... More

This was a delightful tour of the textile traditions in Oaxaca. Our guide, Alex , was very knowledgeable and patient and lots of fun. It was like being led by a good friend! We visited some amazing artisans in remote villages that would have been very difficult to find on our own. We had delicious food often in people's homes... More

This was a wonderful tour with our guide Eric Mindling who knew the region well and had long term friendships with people we visited. It was an amazing opportunity to see remote villages and be welcomed in homes and workshops in different villages. We met weavers and cotton spinners in several villages, sugar cane growers who produce brown sugar, wood... More

I can't say enough about this tour. It was a joy from the first minute until the end. Alex was an amazing guide. Her love of Oaxaca shined through every day. She was understanding & patient with my vegan dietary needs. We traveled from village to village meeting crafts people & watching them work. I fell in love with mexico... More

The tour included Oaxaca traditional daily life. I especially liked the working farm with comida cooked and eaten with the family. He plows his fields with oxen. The guide, Alex, knew the history and culture intimately. Excellent, wonderful and fascinating.

I recently had the joy of joining four day tours - food, craft and market based - and lived every one if them. To be able to travel into the wonderful communities and not only see incredible craftsmen and craftswomen 'at work' but to actually partake in the activities was unbelievable. I was made to feel so welcome at every... More

I was so glad I found this tour. It's easy enough to go out and see Zapotec and all that, but I think the heart and soul of Oaxacalies in their food, their culture, and their traditional way of life. This tour was super! There were only 5 of us along with guide Alex in a comfy Honda Pilot SUV,... More

We recently ( 4 female friends travelling together) experienced the Timeless Cuisine tour in Oaxaca. After spending 3 weeks in Mexico, we all agreed that it was one of our highlights. We were privileged to experience the generosity of the local people & witness (& taste) their skill in cheese, chocolate, bread & tortilla making & truly appreciated their humble... More

I have now done four excellent tours with Traditions Mexico and a few day tours as well. The groups have always been small, allowing us to go into the homes and workshops of the artisans to learn how they make their wares and to see how they live. It is truly a cultural experience to travel with Traditions Mexico. My... More
