My husband, two adult daughters and I enjoyed an amazing day of cooking, culture and fun with Nora. She is very knowledgeable about the history, culture, and techniques associated with Oaxacan cuisine and she shares all she knows with a passion and love that is infectious. We started in the market where she guided us through all the stalls, educating... More

Nora is a fascinating and most knowledgeable of cooks. She wove history and gastronomy in teaching us about what went into the four dishes that we made. The class began with a trip to the market, a wonderful experience in itself. We had the chance to buy various chilli peppers and condiments to take home with us and learn about... More

My husband and I enjoyed every moment of this wonderful Oaxacan cooking adventure. Nora's love and knowledge of Oaxacan cuisine, culture and family made this a most memorable experience. From the market tour to the final dinner we learned from the best and had a great time with our enthusiastic and fun fellow would-be chefs. Nora's house is gorgeous -... More

Nora is very engaging and knowledgeable in sharing her family's indigenous recipe. She makes slaving over a hot stove a joyful event. The food is delicious

Nora Andrea Valencia de Gutierrez is not only beautiful, charming and intelligent, but is an excellent chef who is schooled in Gastro-anthropology. You will learn some history of food, how to shop and how to prepare classic Oaxacan fare. We met at her parents B&B La Casa de Mis Recuerdos (which we intent to stay at next visit with it's... More

I knew I wanted to take a cooking class in Oaxaca but waited until the last minute to book. This was actually my third choice but it shouldn't have been - it was amazing! After meeting the group, you walk a couple blocks to the market and have a short tour. You learn about the different chili's and meet some... More

We just got back from a wonderful experience in Oaxaca. We attended several of the tours, the cooking class and the comparsa dinner hosted by Nora and William. I can't say enough about how wonderful these tours and experiences are and what they provide for the visitor. They are thoughtfully designed, easy to participate in and always give participants a deeper... More

Last night we attended the Comparsa dinner at the home of Nora and William in Oaxaca city. This is a gourmet experience that should not be missed. The four course meal that included appetizer, soup, entrée and dessert was a feast for the eyes as well as the mouth. All of the dishes are very creative with Nora's personal combination... More

Nora put together a tour of the local market before taking us to her beautifully decorated home for a cooking demonstration. We asked for her to show us how to make a Oaxaca mole dish to which she added ceviche, corn soup and Kailua flan. She told us the history of food in Oaxaca and the influences brought by other... Our cooking class with Nora was a very special part of our first trip to Oaxaca. The trip to the market was educational and gave us tools that we used for the remainder of our time in the city (and that we'll be able to use at home as well). Our time in the kitchen was a flurry of activity,... More
