Great local bar to try mezcal. We were put off by the hipster vibe and cost of many mezcalarias in Oaxaca. La Casa opened in 1935 and definitely has a local, low key vibe. Very friendly staff and a fun place to visit.

NOTE: TripAdvisor map location is wrong (as of 12/9/22). Actually located across from Mercado Benito Juarez a block or two from the zocalo.

First the drink, no more special than anywhere else. What makes it stand out from the rest is the side room which has beautiful stained glass and murals. Pop in for a quick one and take a look. It's near the market.

This place is the real authentic deal. The other mezcalaritas we visited were overpriced and the mezcal wasn’t good.
The mezcal here was very good - try the coyote mezcal. Friendly service and even though men are propping up they bar everyone welcomes you. They also have a seating area in the other room.

The kindness that was shared with me and hospitality was amazing. I appreciate it so much. The bartender teyo (tello)? Treated me like a local.

A real classic cantina with many locals, nice beer, good selection of mezcals and a jukebox. As opposed to some other cantinas you dont feel stared at. One downside is the dirty toilet.
