While on a recent stay in the La Condesa neighborhood of Mexico City, my wife and I roamed through two lovely parks, Parque España and Parque Mexicana, which are literally across the street from one another. The latter of the two is the much bigger, but both are lovely, peaceful, and well shaded places to walk and talk, sit and relax, or just take in the city and its people. The parks are near many fine restaurants and bars, and the well-known Mercado Roma. Like all of Mexico City's parks, these two relaxing oases in an otherwise bustling mega-urban environment.

This is a very small park with the usual modest gardens and sitting areas. What sets this park apart is the amount of dogs that are walked here at all times of the day. Parque Mexico, just two blocks East, also is used as a dog park and is much larger but for some reason I enjoyed watching the dogs in Espana more. It seems that every family who lives in the area owns at least one dog. Owners walk them in the evenings and weekends but the most fun is to watch professional dog walkers (trained by the state) walk up to a dozen dogs at a time. During our ten day stay we never saw dogs fight, chase after each other uncontrollably or heard one bark. These trainers are unbelievable! They even have rest/nap times for the dogs where they lay down covers for the dogs to day down on, all lined up in a row with their leashes out in front of them.

You can walk with friends or with your dog and enjoy some of the fancy restaurants in the neighborhood. The people are kind and everything is so cheap

Yes, you can visit Centro, Museo Antropologia, Xochimilco, etc. But the real life of Mexico City flows through the many parques and plazas you'll find in the city's neighborhoods. You don't need a guide - - just locate yourself in a neighborhood (Roma and Condesa are excellent places to begin) and follow a map from one tree-shaded and fountained plaza/parque to the next. Parque Mexico and Espana are the most famous and well-traveled, and each is lovely. But, keep on walking to find hidden gems like Plaza Luis Cabrera (Roma) or Plaza Rio de Janeiro (Roma Norte). Have a seat near the fountain and enjoy the cool air and relaxed atmosphere. Check out the impromptu dance performances. Notice the older folks taking their morning walks or the young couples finding a space away from work, school, and families. Enjoy the escuela de perro (school for dogs) that sets up in almost every plaza/parque and admire the skills of the local dog-whisperers. There's no more edifying or satisfying way to glimpse the art of being chilango!

The park is not too big, but quite nice, in the area with some quiet streets, very suitable for jogging. Close to another park - park Mexico.

I LOVE the parks in Mexico city! The live entertainment, the adult exercise equipment, the friendly people, the friendly squirrels that eat peanuts from your hand. But, the best park of all is Espana where you can see dogs that are so well trained, they look like they are in school. So fun! Oh...and FREE WIFI!

¡ tan divertido! Wi-Fi gratis

There are several plaques throughout the Parque noting it's support for outdoor environments and greenery. Welcoming to all. Lush trees create canopies during rainy days.

A very nice place to "smoke" or do some sports. Very close to the very nice area of Condesa and Roma Sur.
