The library is amazing. I didn't get a tour guide, but it was free to enter.

The interior is awe inspiring. You can explore the stacks and head right to the top. Dwell magazine made me a lifelong fan of modern Mexican design, and this is a great example of it. Even the furniture.

For my structural engineers and architecture geeks - a lot of the floors are tempered glass? They're braced underneath will steel bars. Experientially, you get the sense that you're just hanging in the air.

Unlike the big library in Manhattan and the Library of Congress - this library is lived as a library. There were several reading rooms for kids.

Everyone was like ..what you are going to visit a Library when you are in Mexico City ?? Yes, It is a most amazing place to visit , not only has lot of books - it is architectural marvel!
The glass floors suspended with steel are a total delight. If you are like me and want to see places you don't normally see in tourist guidebooks or YouTube videos - this one's for you :)

All of my Architecture students study this library, and as a librarian who has now visited the Biblioteca Vasconcelos I can see why. Its free to enter, quite and has plenty of places to photograph. It has a garden, stacks, and some outdoor terraces. Its just an amazing design and well worth the Uber to see it.

I've read that this building was, um, "problematic" in its contruction. But it got constructed, and you and I are luckier for it - well, you're only lucky if you actually go and walk into this marvel of glass, cement, steel and millions upon millions of books. And, perhaps more than anything else, of imagination. For if you consider the imagination that went into the building's design, then take into account the contents of all of the books and other form of media containes therein, it's a bit like peering into the galaxy and realizing your brain just doesn't have enough synapses to count all those stars. There are stacks with glass floors high in the air. There are cozy reading areas with comfortable chairs on platforms suspended in space. There are silent gardens flanking the structure, sandwiched between the incongruous chaos of CDMX street traffic and groups of young people arduously rehearsing the choreography that will propel them to stardom in the mirrors of the library's walls.
Granted, most, if not all, of the books are in spanish, but if you are from the USA and aren't daunted by the challenge of learning the language, you can be absolutely certain that you will find books here that we're not allowed to see at home.

Place is currently closed until further notice due to COVID containment measurements.

Even so, this place is worth a visit, because it's next to the Benavides Train/Bus terminal and a ginormous mall.

The library look as amazing in person as they do online  — and you're actually standing on them! Very cool working library, filled with plenty of CDMXers trying to get work done, and a couple tourists marveling at the building.

This is well worth the trip from the main tourist track — especially if you hit up the delicious restaurant Nico's, a short taxi ride nearby.

The site is also close to Tlatelolco, a site of much Mexican history that is also undervisited.

Biblioteca is worth a visit, even though it is a bit away from downtown, especially if you like taking photographs. This place looked somewhat out of a sci-fi movie.

This is worth a sight seeing stop just to admire the scale and interior design of the library. There are 7 levels full of books. We tried to find areas with English books, but unsurprisingly didn't get very far. We were able to enter with a backpack and there are also toilet facilities.

Right next to the Buenavista metro/subway stations, making it easily accessible , its a jaw dropping structure of around 38000 sq.mtrs with a central aisle and racks and racks of books on either side arranged in many levels accessed by stairs. There are plenty of work stations arranged for reference works. The building was named after Jose Vasconcelos, the former president of the National Library of Mexico.
