Having a green oasis in the midst of a bustling city is always a welcome respite, and in that regard, Parque Alameda is a worthwhile experience.

The locals also seem content with their city park, which is abundantly surrounded by vendors selling snacks, beverages, and inexpensive trinkets for the children.

For my taste, the park is a bit sterile, somewhat dull, with a bit too much pavement and a bit too few trees and greenery.

But not a negative word - after all, it's the locals who should be pleased, not me.

Next to the Historic Center, with a lot of fountains in strategic points. It has the Palace of Fine Arts on one side and the Hemicycle to Benito Juarez on the other. This was under construction, so we couldn't visit it as it deserves.
They are going to cross the Alameda several times.

A park adjacent to the Palacio de Bellas Artes. Though not as large nor bucolic or leafy as Chapultepec, it nevertheless does it job as a place of respite from the hot weather and sun. It is very busy on the weekends where the kids like to enjoy dips in its water fountains.

I didn’t really know much about Alameda Central, other than it boarded with a local marketplace I went to that was near the Palace of Fine Arts. Interesting enough, Alameda Central is the oldest public park in North America. I only spent minutes in the park in the evening, so I couldn’t really enjoy it at that given time. I think this park would be a fantastic respite from the sun and the heat of the day.

You can enjoy a pleasant walk between the Fountains, large trees, green landscapes and many chairs to sit and enjoy.
Running, jogging, playgrounds and lots of street shopping on sides.
Nice peaceful place in the heart of Mexico city.
Crowds most of the time, and must to avoid during protests.

This park is a classic of the city. Right next to Bellas Artes so it is hard to miss. The cool thing about it is that you will see Mexicans going about their life in or around the park, you will probably hear a protests near by, the typicall "organilleros" and lots of street vendors around.
It isnt the safest park in the world so you have to watch your belongings and go during the daytime.
Some blocks away from the downtown area so there are tons of museums and restaurants around.

Nice structure just at the entrance of Chapultepec forest. Alameda Central is a public urban park in downtown Mexico City. Created in 1592, the Alameda Central is the oldest public park in the Americas. It is located in Cuauhtémoc borough, adjacent to the Palacio de Bellas Artes, between Juarez Avenue and Hidalgo Avenue

We walked by this on our way trekking downtown. Its a beautiful and safe area. Take a camera, lots of great angles! They have an open market in this area to buy goodies. So much BEAUTY in Mexico!

This large park is extremely popular. It's great for people watching, a morning stroll, readding a book, whatever. On the weekends, imho, there are just too many vendors.

I've always enjoyed strolling around Alameda Park particularly on Saturdays and Sundays. Unfortunately, the park is now closed as all of the sidewalks are being torn up and replaced. From the looks of things, this extensive project will be going on for some time. Although I'll be back in DF at the end of June, I'll be very surprised if the reconstruction project if completed. However, the Alameda neighborhood to the south of the park is very interesting. In tour guidebooks, this is where you'll find Chinatown (although it doesn't amount to much). Walk down Lopez to see people at work including many of the chicken processing shops. If your looking for some good Oaxacan mole, check out Fonda Mi Lipita on Calle Delicias (it's a real hole-in-the-wall place, but the mole is great). You can also tip a pint of pulque (a fermented agave drink) at Las Dualistas in the shadow of Mercado San Juan if you can get in (the crowds can be large. Check out my DF Blog about the Alemeda at http/::searchingfordiego.blogspot.com.
