We had planned to take our daughter to see the Frida Kahlo Museum for some years and in later December 2016 we finally got around to it.We deliberately booked skip the line tickets with a Tour Company so that we could get in easily. However on the day we arrived at the museum it turned out that the Tour Company didn't... A voyage to the life and work of this famous painter, it's also very close to Coyoacan's center, full of night life, stores and restaurants. Well organized, yet very crowded by schools and tourists as well, it has a beautiful garden and you can see it without the need of a guide.

The Casa Azul (Blue House) is divine, not least for the garden, the current temporary exhibition on Frida's dresses, and the fabulous, easy-to-miss 45-minute documentary that one can see after a tour of the house. The key is to BUY TICKETS IN ADVANCE online; we saw so many people waiting more than an hour just to get tickets. The area... More

We got there in a Friday and it was packed with 45 minutes wait. So we got the tickets online. Besides that we are sure it is a must visit.

If you come here expecting to see LOTS of Frida artwork...you won't. Not her most famous paintings anyway. The museum is more about her life here with Diego. The flow of the museum is a little weird and they only let you move a certain way because of it. There are plenty of annoying tourists in your way, too, so... More

Mecca for Frida Kahlo admirers, Casa Azul is quite crowded and requires timed tickets to visit. I had difficulty ordering tickets on the website,so had to ask the metr at the hotel and for him it took only few minutes, We arrived a little before out scheduled time and immediately were admitted. The house-museum and garden are very interesting and... More

For anyone who admires both Kahlo"s art and way she lived her life, this visit is as intimate an understanding of her courage to express her emotional experience, sometimes extremely tragic, that a visitor will get. If you are not familiar with Frida, you should watch the excellent movie "Frida" first. Worth getting tickets in advance.

I took the subway (approx 5 pesos, if I remember correctly) to the suburb of Coyoacan, and walked to join a queue approx 3/4 hour long, but was ok as there are street vendors with fruit and always someone to talk to... because the wait is well worth it. I thoroughly enjoyed 3-4 hours in there residence, then while sitting... More

Just go and look, lean and celebrate a remarkable life. Her clothes, pictures and words are built from a foundation of surviving great pain.

Staying in Coyoacan

Neighbourhood Profile
Coyoacan
Once you step into Coyoacán (“Land of the Coyotes”) you'll find picturesque parks and cantinas that will transport you back to the colonial era thanks to the brick and stone details of the area. Iconic writers such as Trotsky and great painters like Frida Kahlo seeked refuge and inspiration in this area, and you can see the unique spirit of this neighborhood reflected in its colorful market where nieves, sopes and all kinds of traditional 'antojitos' are a must try. Restaurants and cafés throughout its peaceful paved streets contain traditional but unique murals and decorations, where one can enjoy a mezcal at noon or the best churros with a cup of coffee.
