I have been visiting the Jardín del Arte in Plaza Sullivan (Behind the Monumento a la Madre) for years. It is one of my favorite things to do in Mexico City. It is an extraordinary outdoor art exhibition--not handicrafts, but art. Many of the artists who display their work have been coming to the same spot for years and I have enjoyed getting to know several of them. There is great talent on display and if you buy something it's great to have met the artist.

Just returned from Mexico city, had a fabulous time enjoyed every thing and the pollution was not as bad as I expected or have experienced in the past.Just had to pass on this info. for art lovers.A vist to jardin del Arte en el parque de Sullivan is a must.It is billed as the largest outdoor art gallery in the world ,and I believe this is true. The work is of a very high standard with great diversity. The restaurant VIP nearby also offers a great lunchtime special. Thanks Travel advisor for all the info you sent me to help make my trip memorable Colette

You should visit it on Sundays (there is not much to see the rest of the week). On Sunday, weather permitting, they usually have an art exhibit. They have about a thousand artists, most painters. It's a fun way to spend a Sundays and you might find the piece of art you have always wanted!

We've been to Jardines des Artes 3 times now. Various artists display paintings and sculptures. Eclectic and varying abilities. Some are established artists, some are students, and some are amateurs who dabble in art. It's a fun vibrant atmosphere and we usually buy something to bring home.

Beautiful place to spend a Sunday morning. A fantastic garden full of Mexican painters. You can spend hours walking around all these artists and buy beautiful art objects directly from the source. You can get great deals. You never know if you'll be buying a future treasure, or only a very nice painting to hang up in your favorite part of the house and enjoy it for a long time.

Sunday is the day to go. Local artist begin setting up displays around 11 am, and by noon the park is full of all types of artwork for sale. Great place to wander through, then head over to the adjacent food market to get a bite to eat.

Its easy to find. Just behind the monument to mothers and across the street from El Eco is this unusually attractive park that is overrun by artists on Sundays selling paintings, engravings, sculptures and photos. The park is showing wear and tear but has whimsy with its colourful oversized bird cages and funky concrete benches in bright colours. On the day i strolled through, a Wednesday there were sporadic visitors which suited me to a tee.

On our recent trip the art garden was reopened, clean, and with new public rest rooms. There must have been a close to 100 artists of all styles as well as art supplies. We bought a beautiful abstract acrylic which the artist rolled up for us in a PVC tube for traveling. It was at least 25% of what I would have expected to pay in the US. It goes on Sundays from about 10:00 to 6:00. Not that easy to get to on the Metro but get to Insurgentes stop and walk up Insergentes to Reforma and it's a block away down Sullivan.

It was a little cramped, because the garden/park was closed for some reason, but there was still a nice diversity of styles, mediums, and sizes. We bought a landscape of Xochimilco for a reasonable price.
