We happened upon the University campus as a "filler" with our guide to kill some time, and are so glad we did. The campus is filled with incredible art and architecture, and you can spend hours wandering around in this inspiring place. It's a must see for a few hours to get a break from the activity of the city and to get a rounded understanding of Mexico City's culture and diversity.

The favorite part of our tour with Amigo Tours. The guides described the origin of the University, its library and its beautiful tile mosaics. The explanation of the symbolism really made the visit to Mexico City worthwhile. We will be back to see more of the museums available in the city.

I visited with a tour I booked through Viator. I benefited from having the guide there to explain all the symbolism in the murals so that’s my recommendation.

Beautiful place - too large to explore in one day! just to stand in front of the building in this photo can keep you absorbing the details and symbolism of the mural which continues around the building! representation of Gods, conquest, wars, religion, so much that you need to spend quite some time on each detail of just this building! (Which is a library) and then you have 40 acres of campus with hanging water fountains, murals, etc. This place is a whole day expedition if you really want to say "I was there"!

Very nice to drive the surroundings by car, the area of the city is so huge. So many educational buildings and schools. Some very amazing buildings to see and take photos.

This is my school. I go here and study at CEPE.
The murals and architecture are great. The school is world class and the program I am taking is pretty intense.
I would go five stars here if they layed off the attitude toward foreigners....it's a perception thing for me. You kind of get profiled and treated differently than others. I get it but I dont. The language division is pretty big and all but come on, we all pay to go to school here.
Oh, they also have a HUGE misogyny problem...HUGE.

I was at UNAM main library and the murals are spectacular. Each side (north, south, west, east) represents a different moment in the history of Mexico: pre-Hispanic, the conquest of Mexico, modernity and the National University. The murals were painted by Juan O'Gorman, one of the main muralist in the 1950s.
The university is a little bit ugly; it seems a "Soviet university"

The library tiled murals at the University of Mexico City designed by Diego Rivera are detailed, historical as well as incredibly designed. The entire building surface is used as a large canvas for the tiles and stories they relate. Take the time to go around it and enjoy it.

As it is with any campus, it is a walk from parking to the building you want to see and it was a very warm day. No where to rest or hide under a tree during the long explanation of the entire mural. Yes, it's impressive but only to a point.

Hola

When I went to the Olympic Stadium we took the metro and the "metro bus." There's one that stops not too far from there, but you'll still have to walk to the stadium.

Hello! I will be visiting Mexico City for the first time with my husband in April of this year. We are very excited. The university is a must see for us - particularly the Library and the Museum of Modern Art. I was wondering if there is a campus map available so that we can use it as a guide to discover the campus, as well as the hours for the Library and Museum? Want to make sure that they are not closed on the day we will be visiting. We are tentatively planning to be there for the late afternoon of Monday April 11th. - Thank you!!

Hi,
It is hard to find a map for turists about UNAM, but you can find in the internet a pdf with a map for the Pumabus routes (this map has the bus internal routes you can take inside UNAM, and mark the main places). By now, think I can help you, this since I know almost perfectly UNAM because I studied and worked there almost 10 years (and hope to going back). The places you want to see are located in the old part of UNAM's, this one is called "Campus Central", there are all located on Insurgentes Avenue, then there is not difficult to find them. First depending where you are coming from, you are going to see to in one side the UNAM stadium, and in the other side of the avenue you will see a tower, that one is UNAM's main rectory. Then, the things you are looking for are located around that tower: the library is going to be on the left side of the rectory and, also nearby it is located a museum inside the architecture faculty to the right side of the rectory (but think they have moved this one to another place). Then this another place called "Centro Cultural Universitario" or "Zona Cultural", that has also museums (one is the contemporary art or MUAC) and has other places to visit, it is located to the South of UNAM. Hope this is helpful for you. Best regards and hope enjoy your trip.
