We walked up to the monument from downtown - quite an uphill climb which needed a couple of short rest stops. Those who don't like walking are warned to take the funicular. At the site there are plenty of vendors of food, drinks and trinkets, but all are fun. The photos of downtown always seemed to be great in the... More

The funicular ride to the top of this hill overlooking the beautiful city of Guanajuato is a thrill and worth every penny of the 100 peso round trip. We have done it 3 times already! At the top is a superlative view of the city and a statue of one of the key figures in the Mexican war of Independence.... More

Most of the fun is going up in the mini tram and enjoying the incredible view of Guanajuato, even though the history of El Pipila is fascinating paying 10 pesos to go up a cramped stairwell inside the monument too look out of a glass cube was not worth it.

You can walk up or take the funicular for 25 pesos-one way. We did it both ways. Walking takes 10 min if you know where you are going. We had trouble finding our way the first time. Be sure and look for signs on the side of buildings pointing the way for you. Nice to see the homes as you... More

The best thing in the monument is the view, awesome to take beautiful pictures and relax for a moment. We recommend to take the tour to go there, because it also will take you to other must-see places.

It's the first time we visited Pipila at night time and the night view was stunning. I did not have a tripod and could not capture the gorgeous view. It was very windy that night, so bringing a warm jacket with you might not be a bad idea. I highly recommend you to go to Pipila at night time.

Take the Funnicular to the top for the view of the City. Beautiful at night. Last Funnicular runs at 9:30 so don't miss it or you will have to take a taxi down.

nice walk (steep steps) up to the monument if you are up for it...if not there is a funicular. A local hero of the Mexican revolution celebrated in stone. Could not find any info. about the who or why of his heroics ( a friend told me the heroic story). Filled with school kids. Amazing views of the city below.... More

If you want great views of the city, you are only a short funicular ride, or very strenuous walk (we rode up and walked down), to the best views of the city. The statue of Pipila is very prominent and compelling, made more so if you know his role in capturing the Alhondiga de Granaditas (We didn't see any signage... More
