Go for the architecture. The market is not that great. A couple for produce vendors i shopped from were good.

We headed to the mercado after hours of exploring Guanajuato and many steps of walking made us hungry. We ate at one the outer outside restaurants. I had chile rellenos and my husband had chicken posole, There were several strolling musicians, mainly kids trying to sell candy and trinkets, people walking by. It was bright and colorful.

Mercado Hidalgo is centrally located and provides great a great eating and shopping venue. The first floor is mostly food stands with grocers and other goods on the perimeter and the second floor is shopping. Not a lot of tourists or English spoken but a great opportunity to see a working market and so some great shopping.
The exterior is equally entertaining with food stalls and more shopping. Loved it.

This is a wonderful market, with all of the requisite sights, sounds and smells expected. We spent the better part of an hour wandering and totally enjoyed it.

It is what it is. A flea market. Some good and some bad within, but still an experience worthy of a visit. Good architecture.

An interesting building, was built to be a train station and you can tell. It is very similar to most mercados around Mexico.

Stopped in for quick bite great choices for inexpensive food but if you’ve been to one big city market in Mexico this is no different
Recommend for locals as all kinds of produce and housewares available

Nothing to write home about. The market has a number of low cost touristy stalls which all sell the same cheap items. Do not expect high quality artisanal items, it is very much aimed at those looking for cheap toys etc.

It is a very good cultural experience to visit this market. It has plenty of eating places and to shop for local goods. The place is pretty clean. While having something to eat in one of the restaurant, Mariachi bands serenade you with classic songs. It is a pleasant experience. You can bargain for souvenirs at one of the many stalls. It is located pretty close to the main historic center. Where as the historic center is touristy, this place is to experience the local culture.
