Our guide, Carlos, gave us a most interesting commentary of Zapopan as we drove through the communities and high end shopping areas. His English is excellent so he added lots of details of modern culture and lifestyle in Guadalajara.
Because of a ceremony being held in the Basílica, we couldn’t go inside, nevertheless Carlos pointed out historical features of the building and gave us a guided tour through the Huichol Museum connected to the Basilica. Then he helped us buy great tacos in the market next door. All in all, this was a memorable tour.

Is always a very nice visit, take advantage to appreciate the architecture and the art of this church, the plaza in front is also very nice. Let your self to be taken back in time and imagine was the city back then.
this visit should take 30 minutes the most and you will have great pictures and memories of Guadalajara.

Beautiful basilica located in Zapopan. The interior is stunning.
This Basilica dates back hundreds of years and is very beautiful and peaceful. There’s also a nice gift shop located on the outside at the end of the Basilica.
Don’t be afraid if you’re the only American here as everyone is very friendly and it’s very safe just like anywhere else. If you’re in Guadalajara and are looking for a nice Basilica to visit then this is the one you must see.

Zapopan is a small gem in the middle of Guadalajara. It's small and quaint. I wish I had had more time to explore this area. I'm looking forward to going back and eat in one of the many restaurants and look at the shops. I was so taken with this area I'm going to book a hotel here next time I visit Guadalajara.

The Basilica is beautiful, but the biggest impression was how picturesque the streets of old Zapopan were, with small shops and trees, it is very beautiful and worth the trip to visit!!

The basilica is one of the wonderful attractions in Zapopan, I loved the wonderful displays in the chruch itself and the excellent cantera walls. The cantera makes it so original because the cantera was taken from the ground itself that surrounds Zapopan. The people of Zapopan and surroundings villages worked together to create the beautiful plaza de Zapopan and the beauty itself, la basilica de la virgen Zapopan.

Zapopan residents are absolutely specific in underscoring that they are from Zapopan and NOT from Guadalajara; and that's because Zapopan is the most modernly developped site in all Mexico. There are some sections of avenida Americas where you can have the feeling you're walking around some upper-class areas of some rich European or Northern-American city. Yet, in the middle of this ultimate example of Mexican modernity you can spot a nice and tine central square where the Basilica pops up reminding you that you are still in Mexico. But why should a tourist travel over 10 miles from central Guadalajara just to see one more Mexican-style church unless you have friends who live there or you are going to one of the many luxury malls nearby and happen accidentaly to bump into this church?

Zapopan is really a waste of time, unless you are a cheap beer drunkard and love music composed of 4 notes and less than 3 words, of course you can always ask for forgiveness at the conveniently located basilica, amen.

Mezcal distillery tours or tasting rooms in Guadalajara, MX, recommendations welcomed.

About 98% of the distilleries are outside of Guadalajara, either on the town of Tequila, or on Arenal or Arandas. But if you don't have the time and want something inside the city of Guadalajara, you could take the tour of Tequilas del Señor (you can google it). They have daily tours as far as I know, and the place isn't that far from the city center. Hope the info helps.
