My wife and I had an wonderful 4-day visit here in mid-January. Our guide was Francisco Garcia, and he made our multi-day exploration of La Tovara and surrounding areas extraordinary. He gave us helpful guidance in planning the visit and the areas for exploration based on our priorities. La Tovara and its endless maze of mangroves was brought to life, by... More

A spot you can't miss, it's full of crocodiles and tortoise, it really looks like the anaconda fill, you know the water, the jungle, even the weather.

We head up to San Blas often from our base in La Penita but today was our first time taking the boat trip out to Tovara. We will do it again. All four of us enjoyed the boat ride. The panga operator was excellent at spotting various birds and had a bird guide with him in english as well an... More

A must if you ever visit San Blas, Nayarit. The town has nothing expectacular to see, a visit to the old fort and church and that´s it, but the best is a visit to La Tovara, as I mentioned in my title, this is a true Jungle visit, At the begining you go through a "fantastic" canopy of vegetation, and... If you like nature you will enjoy this!! I think Disney copied this ride for their park. You will like everything: the one thing that gives people pause is taking a dip at the end of the tour inside the jungle. Main reason is that the location has many leaves in the water. I guess people were expecting a swimming... More

It is worth the trip to La Tovar's Springs in San Blas, Mexico, even if you are not a birdwatcher. I went there to do some birding and was not disappointed. I hired a local and his boat ( $800 pesos) for a 31/2 hour trip thru the estuaries. Crocodiles, many different birds , turtles and beautiful scenery. Although the... More

The boat trip is a wonderful way to see fantastic nature. Crocodiles, many birds and turtles abound. Then a stop for a drink or a bite to eat. All lovely. You can swim at the stop if you like.

What an amazing time spent on the river ! Our guide was fabulous, often reversing the boat, to make sure we all spotted the crocodile, the egret, the blue-green heron, the turtles, the nocturnal owl-like bird. The boat ride was stable and lovely, just the right speed. We stopped at the nearby sanctuario, where there were many more crocs up close,... More

If you are planning a trip to San Blas you must stop here and take the boat tour down the river. Cost was 200 pesos per person and worth every bit. Our guide was Oscar and he made this experience amazing. He would stop along the river and point out the different birds, turtles and the large crocodiles. It was... More
