- Gardengel-IoWWest Sussex, United Kingdom1,014 contributionsJust a quick stroll from the sea front.Strict dress code no swimwear/shorts mini skirts, no food. Crisp white interior, quite low key compared to some churches, some lovely golden embellishments and beautiful domed alter. Quite an unusual clock tower, very ornate with its open work crown. There are steep steps up to entrance but there is a ramp to the left as you look at church. Certainly worth a look.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 November 2023
- Shanker BAlpharetta, Georgia1,228 contributionsCalm and divinewe are a family of 4. We had long wished to visit this church - that wish was fulfilled this Xmas vacation. Its a gorgeous church. The structure and the towers and the crown on top the church tower is wonderful architecture. the church is calm and beautiful inside. They allowed us to take pictures. it is really a divine experience. There is such a sense of calm and peace in the church and surrounding areas.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 January 2024

The interior is full of beauty as well. Religious or not it is worth stopping into view.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 April 2024

We arrived in PV via a cruise ship and took a cab to the Malecon. We continued past the Malecon into Old Vallarta when we came across Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. It was Sunday and we arrived in the middle of noon mass so we just stood in the back and tried not to be too conspicuous. I could see the Main Altar and many of the artifacts and would love to have spent more time and will next time we are in PV. I recommend a visit and perhaps a Mass if you are here during Mass time.

The church of Our Lady of Guadalupe is in the heart of the town and I am sure at the heart of most Mexican people. On Sunday when we attended this beautifully restored, nicely maintained church it was crowded with Gringos and locals. Luckily the priest spoke English and Spanish. This landmark is not to be missed and whether you attend church there of tour it, it is well worth a visit.

While on Sunwing’s tour of the City of Puerto Vallarta, we had the pleasure of the most wonderful tour guide, Alfredo (Alfie) who appeared to know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING. A wealth of knowledge! When he told us about how the church came into existence, I literally had tears running down my cheeks. After going inside the church, I was overwhelmed by the incredible beauty of it all. It seems that Catholics spare no cost on the elaborate fixtures. This is not meant to be a criticism, just an observation. I was very glad it was part of the tour!

Every time I go to Puerto Vallarta I visit the Cathedral not only to pray but to walk around and see the beautiful statues and artwork. It's also a good place to meditate. When I was there this year at Christmastime the decorations were different for the holiday.

Very beautiful church near the main square in Pv just off the Malecon. Has an interesting history - we were ta Lindomar Resort restaurant the other night and saw pictures of the church in the 1950’s unfinished - as was most of PV. Always few people visiting there and take the time to take On my way! pictures. I did a painting of it in watercolour a few ago when we were down in the winter. Lots of nice restaurants nearby.

Puerto Vallarta was our second port on our Christmas Cruise aboard the "Royal Princess". We were lucky enough to visit this iconic church on Christmas Day. The interior and altar of this church were decorated with colorful red and white adornments. The almost life size "three wise men" statues were situated on the left side the altar. A wonderful "creche", flanked by two angels, commanded your attention at the center of the altar. On a side patio of the church, we admired an awesome sculptural painting of Jesus with statues of Mary and Joseph. Lacy banners of red, white, and green stretched across the buildings in the front of the church making the Christmas celebration even more festive.

Lovely old church in ocre stone, it sits in the centre of the old town not far from the Malecon. Topped with an interesting crown structure and smaller domes, it really catches the eye. Inside bold purple, gold and white colours alongside floral displays makes it worth visiting.

Beautiful old church. Centrally located, very well maintained. Motivates you to take time to pray for your family and the world during this stressful time. Specially during this last month of 2020 when it used to be filled with joy.

We were in PV while the Lady of Guadalupe Festival was taking place. It was such a great experience. Each day there was a parade, music, food vendors, and entertaining. We made sure to go a couple times (day and night festivities are different).

It was on my wish list once we began planning our trip to see this beautiful church. The inside of this church is absolutely spectacular. Frequently I heard the bell it is very loud, I'm pleased that our accommodation was not close by.

How to get from Princess cruise port pier to The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe?
Written 14 September 2019
It's a short distance to the south. Here's what I would do if I were you. I'd get out on the pier, find my bearings and walk out to the main street. I'd find a place where a uber driver can pull over to pick you up and I'd grab an uber, The main street drag is a very busy and ubers are plentiful and very reasonable. (down load the app and set everything up before your trip if you have not done so) I'm guessing about 4-5 USD. A bus, they are super cheap and there's tones of them, can take you but you'll need to know where you need to get off. (problematic unless you know your way around the town and what bus to get onto. If you're interested look for a bus going to "Centro" and when you return look for one that says "wal-Mart") After you've finished visiting The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, I'll recommend that you walk the 1 block to the west (its a very short block) and stroll along the Malecon in either direction. there's so much to see. It's very pretty. You can grab a bite to eat or have an adult beverage and relax for a few minutes before hailing a Uber to take you back. Don't for get your camera and sun screen as there is not a lot of shade on the Malecon. apologies for my slow reply. Enjoy your trip!

I bought a beautiful rosary a few years ago. Can I still buy a rosary and what times of the day are they being sold?
Written 8 January 2018
Just returned from PV a month ago - yes rosaries along with other religious artifacts are sold at the main entrance.

What does the ringing of the chimes mean? The number of rings don’t seem to match the time of day.
Written 26 November 2017
The sextants of the church ring the bells every 30 minutes and every 15 minutes prior to a service except during the festival of Our Lady of Guadalupe December 1-12 when they ring more often.
