The promenade along the front of the town has bronze sculptures placed at various points along it. They are all very unusual and beautiful. There are also a set of bronze “ chairs” that are very unusual. A great place to visit with an eclectic mix of shops

Walk along the Malecon and approximately the center spot between the north edge of old town and the Muelle de Playa Los Muertos (the pier) is where you find the colorful 5 foot tall letters spelling out P U E R T O V A L L A R T A with Caballito (the seahorse) above it. Here you will see tourists standing on, leaning against and doing weird things but basically posing in front of the letters for a photo so they can say "I was there" when they get back home. People will wait in line to do this, so it is a show to stand back and watch how funny they can be.
Officially called El Niño sobre el Caballito de Mar” sculpture (“The Boy on the Seahorse”), commonly known as “El Caballito”, is one of the Puerto Vallarta’s icons.
Rafael Zamarripa’s original work was placed in the late 1960s in Las Pilitas, at the southern tip of Los Muertos Beach. After a strong storm swept it away into the sea, a larger replica was requested from the artist and this one was placed on the Malecón in 1976, the first statue of many that are now part of an open-air exhibition along the seaside promenade. Most people don't really care about the significance of the statue and just goof off at the letters by it.

Lovely artwork along the beach and boardwalk. One day new art in the shape of hearts just appeared and added to the already authentic experience. At the time we visited, we saw more locals than tourist - and we were ok with that. Very nice day. We could of had less solicitations for taxis, food, excursions, or drinks - but a friendly "No" and they were on their way to the next person.

This must be one of the most photographed statues along the Malecón.
It's name Caballito de Mer translates as The Seahorse. The bronze statue depicts a boy riding on the back of a seahorse. He appears to be naked with only a sombrero, on his back, hanging from a piece of string around his neck.
It stands in between large colourfully decorated letters that spell out Puerto Vallarta. Due to the popularity of the statue and the words, it is difficult to get a photograph without lots of people in it.
This is the second version of the statue to be installed along the Malecon in 1976 as the original version was washed away in a storm in the late 1960's
If the statue was not surrounded by the letters it would be rather ordinary.
We did stop here, for a photo opportunity, as we walked down the Malecon on Thursday 3rd February.

My wife and I visited the Malecon Boardwalk on our first visit to Puerto Vallarta. We walked down the boardwalk to check out all of the beautiful statues and the view of the ocean. Caballito, the Seahorse and Rider was really nice to see along with the many other statues.
The Malecon Boardwalk is not to be missed when visiting Puerto Vallarta. And all of the many statues make for an amazing sight...Bring your camera and make sure to pose with them....

Walking among all the bronze statues and other types of art is amazing. It’s like walking along a river in Europe. We walked the length of the Malecon and into Old Vallarta. The shops and restaurants on one side and beach on the other makes the walk so worthwhile. There are street vendors that are very polite and don’t hassle you. They speak great English too so makes touring a bit easier. Take a day and enjoy all the works of art while getting a good walk in! Highly recommend as it is one of my favorite places which is saying a lot since I’ve been to 52 countries!

My 15th trip to PV. I walked the Malecon twice. Sunday is Family Night...lots of food and craft booths. The sunset is to die for. Lots of statues. I highly recommend a walking tour to learn about the statues.

This statue is on the Malecon; a walkway adjacent to the beach and across the road from shops and retaurants. There are a series of statues which are pretty incredible. The other good part of the malecon is that you can walk and look at the shops and restaurants without being hassled. See something you like, walk across the street and check it out.

The Caballito statue featuring a boy riding a seahorse is the iconic symbol of Puerto Vallarta. It is located on El Malecon Boardwalk. Flanking the base of the statue is the Puerto Vallarta city sign. It is a very popular location for photographs.

If you are in PV this location has to be done. There is a nice walking area and you can take lot of photos while strolling. There are local vendors which somehow are very costly..which was surprising to me.
