Great attraction about 1 hour from downtown Monterrey. The views from the mountain where the caves start are almost amazing as the caves themselves. They do have a tram to get up to the entrance to the caves but it was not working the day we went. Expect to hike up a paved path for about 40 minutes depending on how fast or slow you climb.

We are vacationing in Monterrey and this was one of the things on my plan. Booked a tour with ‘toursionterrey’. $800 pesos per person and they gave me a $200’pesos discount as I booked multiple tours.
Pick up was at 10.30 and we reached this place around 12 noon. Tickets to the caves was part of the tour. There are two ways to go to the top of the mountain - through a cable car or hiking. We preferred the cable car. Takes u up in about 2 mins. Entrance to the cave is filled with food vendors. I found it strange. The tour guide (employee by the cave management) takes a batch of about 60 people (1 cable car load) through a 2 km tour if the caves explaining stuff in Spanish. Our tour guide knew a little English and she translated it for us nicely. It is just like any other cave system. (Except in size). At one place they have a Christian shrine inside.

Quite a walk inside. Worth it.

We had a tour guide bring us to this location. The guide we had inside the caverns was Edgar who was really awesome. He was very knowledgeable and his humor was greatly appreciated.

A tour for the decades. And I say this because I have had the opportunity to visit since I was 8 now 38 and the only thing that has changed is the way up to the cave. Although the new maybe safer cable car is more modern I did have a preference for the old train going up the mountain. Inside its gorgeous work of art by Nature the guides learned a pattern of figures and speach and repeat it tour by tour. Could definetly use a change either by season or trends. Maybe is asking to much since a stalagmite and stalactites takes centuries to change. So as to summarize if it's your first time it's a nice thing to see. But if you seen it once years ago it is still the same. Regardless I still go am a bit nostalgic since my parents brought me as a kid.

This was as nice a cave as Carlsbad, NM. It helps if you know Spanish because I didn't know any. I was stuck in Monterey and this is one of two places I visited. You begin on a cable car ride. You look up and see this isn't you typical ride, it's high, all the way to the top of the mountain. Once you get going you think, wow this is Mexico, I hope they do maintenance on this. The ride was nice and we made it. You come to a steel door on the side of the mountain. The tour guide opens it and inside is a huge and took a couple of hours to complete. Although I didn't understand a thing they said, I knew about the minerals and the shells. I was told this is a place a painter named Garcia use to come to. I don't know if that's true or not. I would do this again if I felt safe going back to Monterey/Mexico.

I highly recommend Grutas de Garcia (5/5), it is an amazing place! I went with my wife and two local friends and we enjoyed ourselves a lot. This place is 60 million years old and shows just how amazing nature can be. As you walk around the 2km loop you will constantly be amazed. I have been to tons of places in Mexico and I think this is one of my favorite places in the country, honestly! The tour guides were also knowledgeable and took their time to explain everything. The entrance fee plus the funicular was a very fair price. With almost everything being SO GREAT there is just one thing that prevents me from wanting to go back again in the future and that is.....

***What I DON'T recommend are the taxis who hang out around the the parking lot of Grutas de Garcia. It was taking too long to find an uber so we decided to get a taxi. Bad choice, we should have waited. I trusted that my friend, being a local, would be able to get a fair price. The taxi told my (local) friend he would charge 75 pesos for us to go, which seemed kind of high for where we were going which was not far but we wanted to save time. As we rode to the destination he made several dangerous maneuvers including nearly running into a coke truck heading the opposite way. My wife (she is Colombian so latin driving is not new to her) was scared, he just laughed at that. When we got to our destination we gave him 75 pesos. Suddenly he changed his attitude and told us the cost was now 75 pesos per person! He wouldn't let us go until we paid the *new* amount. And taxis wonder why people are going to uber, cabify, lyft and didi in large amounts, because of nonsense like this. If you are a taxi driver, stop blaming ride sharing companies and fix yourself, stop being dishonest and creating distrust among possible riders! I am reminded of why I avoid taxis at all costs and would rather walk as far as it takes than trust my life with these thieves and be ripped off by untrustworthy ****s like this. This taxi driver is a black eye on Monterrey. (incident happened on July 13 around 2pm).

Went in a large group and got a tour into the cavern. Learned a lot about the minerals and the age of the formations. Also learned that there are sea shells in parts of the cavern floor.
