Small but calm and cool and a great spiritual respite from vacation activities - this authentically rebuilt church is on the site of the original FIRST mission in the Californias. Museum adjacent.

Visit the first of the California missions. The first of the string of missions that reach into present day Northern California. School kids in California all learn about the California Missions, but I do not recall hearing about the Mexico Missions that started it all....More

This mission church was the beginning to the Camino Real leading up into California. The sense of history is palpable. It remains an active church and we was town locals attending mass throughout the week.

This is a simple and elegant small church with great historical value. It was first built in 1697 and led to the establishment of the Spanish missions farther up the coast into what is now California. The building is rather spartan but aethestically pleasing and...More

The Mission church is in the centre of town and should not be missed. It has an interesting history and is one of Loretos highlights!
