I visited the avenue during our stopover from the Hawaiian cruise, our 5 hours stop afford us some time to take in as much of the Mexican culture as possible, lined with plenty of souvenir shops, restaurants and bars, and pushy salesmen trying to sell you anything from jewelry to knock offs, it didn't discouraged me though, as I've got used to the culture in Mexico, lovely street food, and a wonderful nightlife on the malecon, with nice views in the marina and our ship in the distance, it's a nice port area to visit

My husband and I took a shuttle into town from where our cruise ship, the Majestic Princess, was docked. It was a short walk from the shuttle terminal to Avenida Lopez Mateos where the silver shops are located. Having been here many times before, nothing has improved. If you have any walking issues, the irregular sidewalks and curbs can be difficult and unsafe.

Along Avenida Lopez Mateos you will find pushy sidewalk vendors selling questionable silver jewelry and aggressive salesmen trying to lure us into their shops. I did enter a very nice jewelry shop and liked a Blue Fire Opal whale pendant which was too pricey for me. The salesman wouldn't lower the price. Then I spotted a square blue fire opal pendant set in silver. The desperate salesman weighed it and said the cost was $125. He really wanted to make a sale. The price kept coming down after refusing his offers. Finally, he asked how much I would pay, and I said $20. He asked his boss who said to give it to me for $20.

I did buy a little ironwood dolphin statue from a vendor for $10 which probably should have been half the price.

it is the usual, street with plenty of stores selling almost the same things, and also the pharmacies with certain medicines that maybe US citizens look and are cheaper in Mexico, really,...not worth the walk

My friend and I arrived in downtown Ensenada and proceeded to our Airbnb, the lady was not there to let us in so we waited outside, while waiting outside the police pulled up to us turned their lights on threw us against the van saying we’re under the influence when we’re 100% sober then they threw us in the back of the van handcuffed drove us around then demanded $100 or go to jail... watch out they’re going after tourist for absolutely no reason at all! I’ve notified the us consulate in Tijuana of the corrupt police as well. Be careful!!

Plenty of shops, hotels and restaurants along Avenida Lopez Mateos. Spend some time just walking the street and enjoying the sights.

This is an interesting street - crammed with tourist junk with an occasional and almost astonishing shop selling fine crafts and high end silver. Mcdonalds exists within 4 short blocks of the fabulous El Rey Sol, a french restaurant nearly a century old, with lovely servers of the old school. Pastries to drool over. The rule of thumb here is the further south, the nicer the restaurants and shops - although even this is not quite true because there is a great chicken place and a beautiful crafts shop more north. Just walk the street and let your nose and common sense guide you to the good spots. Avoid the pharmacies with overpriced fake pills. However, for the most part, this is an enjoyable and harmless bit of fun. Bring the kids. They will love it and convince you to buy cringe worthy souvenirs. Totally safe in daylight hours. Too many drunk gringos at the north end of the street at night. This is where all the bars are. The police regularly patrol to assure visitors are safe. It’s well lit and well maintained. Worth a visit for the carnival atmosphere and the occasional high quality shop and restaurant. Make time for a latte and pastry at El Rey Sol. Unforgettable.

It's all here and at tourist prices, which if you bargain, can be okay. Restaurants are pricey for Mexico but there are some good ones.
