A nice time, but too touristy
I had a great time at Isla Baru, the beach so nice and the water so warm. Did snorkeling early in the morning right on the beach. However, I arrived late like 6pm and left early like 10am, before all the vendors were out. But just as I was leaving I was approached by a couple of pushy vendors, I told them I had no money but they still sat next to me and wouldn’t leave me alone. Also, photos are misleading there are hotels/hostels and restaurants side by side right down the beach, there’s not a single stretch where there’s not so it feels quite touristy and crammed now.

I'm on the beach now outside Geronimo glamping, this will be our last night of 3. Maybe this is the time of year to visit. Vendors yes, but are put off just as easily as in Cartegena. The beach is not crowded, if anything, when the boats go back to Cartegena, it's too quiet. There are about a dozen bars open at night with 3 or 4 people in each and they close around 10 p.m. It's not what I expected, but in a good way.

Pleasant beach day if you appreciate its over developed and busy
White sand beach although not very wide and blue waters. However, it is very overdeveloped and busy. It's probably best to book one of the nicer beach clubs as far as from the parking area as possible. Ignore all the guys that will approach you when you arrive. Once we'd walked to our beach club, the area was roped off and we didn't get hassled at all. Was a nice relaxing day after a lot of travelling around Colombia.

Tour guide we hired in Cartagena took us to such an unspoiled spot. A little rough getting down the hill from parking area….wear good shoes…but sooooo worth it went you get to bottom. Nice authentic beach restaurants, good food and good prices. Water was spectacular

Honestly, horrible. While driving there in our rental car a motorcycle with 3 men on it drove next to us yelling the window insisting if we followed the road our gps said we would be in danger and had to follow them. We stupidly obliged. When we parked they brought us to a beach and immediately set us down and handed us drinks. We never asked for them. They insisted and when we asked how much they pretended to not speak any English or Spanish and walked away. They came back and asked which dinner we wanted without showing a menu we decided on two plates. It took a while but food was good. Then after a while we decided we wanted to leave as we were being harassed and I mean physically harassed by all the vendors. I had to actually remove a lady’s hands from my shoulder after repeatedly telling her to stop touching me and that I didn’t want a massage. As we got up, they gave us our “bill”. The bill was for the help of the men who parked us, for the chair we sat in, and for the drinks we never asked for and dinner. It was $700,000 pesos. Roughly $170US. We were there all of an hour. It was four men insisting we pay and just my boyfriend and I so we decided to pay and leave without fuss. Save your time and money. Water is clear but as others said there was jet skis running literally feet from people swimming so we didn’t feel super inclined to get in.

Lot of scammers..
Umbrella rental and chair guys...be aware of those..rather pay a stay at the Nena beach club .pay 120 000...a day as couple...or be scammed with a service charge of 80000-120000 from some chair rental, umbrella or motorcycle assistant guy.
Threats..if u don't pay...

The only way to avoid criminal scammers( umbrella and chair guys) book into a beachclub

Nice beach and the water is beautiful like the pictures, we found it enjoyable but its very busy like others have said, you will have to fend off some vendors. Be careful not to get scammed. The water was warm so that was pleasant.

Avoid this place at all costs. We were driven to a parking lot by Ubar and thought to ourselves, there can never be a hostel/hotel there. When we arrived at the parking lot, we were greeted by a group of young men who immediately wanted to carry our backpacks. They claimed to show us the way to the hotel. As we didn't know our way around, we followed them. On the way to the beach we had to pass through a kind of fishing village from where we were joined by more and more local people. When we arrived at the beach, we could already see the hostel from a distance. Now the people said it was impossible to get to the hostel and we had to get on a boat so they could take us there. As we could already see the hostel, we declined. From this point on they became very pushy, held us, showed us pictures of murdered people and said if we don't pay money now we have a very big problem. When we paid the money, they let us go. The rest of the time we felt very uncomfortable and unwanted in the place. The people were very pushy and always touched you immediately (offer of a massage). If you refused, they immediately became aggressive. Worst 24 hours of my life!

They stole approximately about $500.00 US dollars in Colombian pesos out of my wallet. We went to Los Rosarios 5 Island deal. I could have made an ugly scene, but I did not! I wanted everyone to enjoy the trip. They took my money when we were snorkeling at the coral island. Everyone was off the boat, and our belongings were on the boat. Double yamaha 300hp. Roberto if you read this message. That was sorry as hell!

This is a very dangerous beach. You will be set up and they will rob you. It's a trap. From the moment you come you will have people following your car. I ended up having my cell phone robbed. DO NOT GO. The beach is very pretty but it is NOT worth it. If you're coming by car, all passengers are dropped in a central location where you WILL be followed and PROBABLY will be robbed.

Beware of scams! Groups of men harass you and follow you down the beach until you sit at one of their stands. Then they sell you overpriced food and drinks, and add an outrageous service fee on the bill. Ended up paying $150 for four drinks and some fries. Avoid at all costs!! There is no such thing as "Playa tranquilo", the whole beach is overcrowded and messy. We were recommended to go there by a local taxi driver, but I think he was part of the scam. Moral of the story, do your research before going anywhere!
