HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Whatever I can say to urge you to explore enrolling in this school, please consider it said. It is THE BEST. I had been trying to learn Spanish for a couple of years prior to starting weekly Zoom classes with Karina 8 months ago. Then, 3 months ago, I spent 5 weeks in Oaxaca, taking in-person classes with her for 4 hours a day. My Spanish has improved significantly and I am continuing my weekly Zoom classes to get even better. Karina is a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, patient, excellent teacher. She met me at my skill level and, understanding how I learn best, developed a program that keeps me challenged and engaged. During my stay in Oaxaca, we split our class time between studying the language and exploring the city as well as some of the nearby pueblos. So interesting and so much fun! The new school building is a beautiful, mostly open structure in a serene setting, about 20 minutes driving distance from the center of Oaxaca. Its location offers the tranquility of San Andres Huayapam with easy access to everything Oaxaca has to offer. I can't wait to go back in 3 months and look forward to many more visits.

I have taken lessons with Erika for a year, and my Spanish has improved so much! Every lesson is tailored to my specific learning needs. Erika uses learning tools like videos so I can prepare for our lessons asynchronously. Our meetings are fun and productive. I have the opportunity to practice speaking, develop my comprehension skills, gain exposure to Hispanic/Latin American culture, and deepen my understanding of Spanish grammar in an applied and interesting manner. Plus, I really like spending time with Erika - a warm, intelligent, and delightful person!

I've tried and failed to learn Spanish with many different teachers on every format available, and nothing has worked until now. Erika strikes the perfect balance between patience and persistence. I've moved from hopeless to actually learning the language I've longed to speak for more than 20 years. It's still hard and I've got a long way to go but I've never felt this encouraged before. Moving from 1 class a week to 2 has helped a ton as well. What an amazing school and experience and I can't wait to visit in person some day.

This was my fourth time studying with Luz, Karina and Erika at Español Interactivo, not to mention all of the online classes that I've taken with them over the last 7 years. I cannot say enough about the excellent and individualized teaching that keeps me coming back for more. They are so warm and encouraging and have extreme patience with all my equivocaciones (mistakes), that they just make learning fun. The materials that they have developed for teaching are well-organized in a way that helps me to build my confidence in communicating the thoughts that I want to express.
We've shared lots of laughs and opinions about the world around us. We've discussed culture, politics, books, movies, music, art and anything else that comes up. I can truly say that we have become friends along the way.
I always meet interesting people who also come to the school to study from across the US, Canada, and other parts of the world.
This was my first time attending the school in its new location in Huayapam, and it amazed me with its beauty! They have done such a lovely job with creating an artistic environment with open air spaces that are a joy to experience and comfortable to learn in.
The pueblo of Huaypam doesn't feel touristic. Instead, I was mingling with the local residents who always said hello as we passed on the street. It's quiet and peaceful there, and I slept so well at night without the city noise. If you are looking for an authentic experience, you will enjoy being there.
Luz, Karina and Erika, it's been 4 days and I miss you already!
(But Karina, I'll see you tomorrow online)

I had attended 4 other language schools in various countries before stumbling upon Espanol Interactive in 2018. While in Oaxaca, I visited the school and sat down with the owner to discuss their method of teaching and was very impressed. I attended in person in the fall of 2018 and again in the summer of 2019. Their style is perfect for adult learners and I really feel that I have excelled through their guidance and excellent teaching methods. They make learning fun and we even went to some museums for class. During the pandemic, I continued my classes with the two main teachers, Karina and Erika, on Skype with 2 private lessons a week. I am so excited to attend their new school in person this spring. I understand that San Andres Huayapam is beautiful and muy tranquilo !!! It is also close to the city of Oaxaca for exploration. I highly recommend this school and will continue to attend in my life long quest to learn the Spanish language.

I recently spent 5 weeks at this language school and would highly recommend the experience. I came in with intermediate Spanish and left feeling comfortable and advanced in my ability to express myself. I think that the interactive style was especially effective for my level, and allowed me to achieve a fluidness with the language that you don't always get from instruction-based classes. All the teachers were excellent and made me feel part of a community during my time here. Great experience overall!

Our family of three (two parents, one teen) spent a week studying Spanish with the wonderful teachers at Español Interactive Language School in Huayapam. We combined it with a weekend staying in Oaxaca city (also wonderful) but we all agreed that the highlight of our trip was our Spanish classes. All three instructors were kind, fun, engaging and excellent teachers. We were two beginners and one more advanced student and we all learned a lot; the lessons were well-designed, useful, engaging and, as the name of the school suggests, very interactive. Lots of laughter throughout the morning, and some field trips as well to get to know Huayapm. The school is so beautiful and welcoming. Thank you, we hope to be back!

I spent four weeks studying six hours per day at Español Interactivo and wish that it could have been longer. The hours literally flew by. I chose this school because of its focus on conversational Spanish and less on the grammar that I have studied off and on for years, yet somehow never managed to put into coherent sentences. Director Luz and her team of teachers were creative and professional in their approach and had me speaking within days in ways that amazed me.
There was no book work. We were given sheets of phrases and structures which served as a basis for building natural conversations. These handouts were well-thought-out and provided a rich source of useful information.
I was in a class of either 2 or 3 students working with different teachers, and I felt that Luz, Magda, Erika and Karena each brought something of value to the classes. Often I had one-on-one time with each of them, with plenty of time for an exchange of ideas about meaningful themes, and walks around the city to museums, markets, shops, churches, civic buildings and parks. The school is located in the heart of the city center, so I was able to visit many other locations on my own and use my newly-found voice to interact with the natives.
I cannot say enough about the lovely family that Luz arranged to host me. Being an older adult traveling alone, Luz felt that I would enjoy the company of this family, and she definitely called it correctly. My wonderful hosts knocked themselves out feeding and entertaining me and making me feel at home, and I know that we will stay in touch.
Overall, I advanced my skills significantly during my immersion, and had a really fun time while doing it. I can’t wait to return!

I just returned from a two-week stay in Oaxaca, studying Spanish and soaking up the culture (and the sun!) I am a retired teacher and, though I've studied other languages, had never pursued Spanish in a formal learning environment. Luz, a talented director and instructor, and her great staff took me from where I was (maybe, advanced beginner) and helped me progress more in my conversation than I really would have thought possible. Four hours of intense conversation every morning produced truly satisfying results!
The teachers at Espanol Interactivo are cheerful and caring (and gifted in the classroom!). I was lucky enough to receive individualized instruction with Magda, who chatted with me as we visited markets, museum, and churches for two hours of each of the 4-hour sessions. I didn't really want worksheets and book exercises; I want to TALK! I have far to go, but would return (and WILL) for more fun in this rich and rewarding environment.
I stayed with Gabrielle, who owns one of the lovely homes that houses students, arranged by the school for me. She was a total sweetheart and a fabulous cook; she was always ready with a warm greeting and a sincere smile. We really became friends (despite our troubles with each other's languages) and I look forward to enjoying her hospitality and generosity again.
There are lots of Spanish schools in Oaxaca, but if intense conversation and FUN are what you are looking for, I highly recommend Espanol Interactivo! The flexiblity and personalization are truly outstanding! The school location is stellar. The town is charming and manageable. Do give the teachers my love and enjoy!

Hi! I have emailed your school twice now, and haven't heard back. I was wondering if there was a different email that I should use? I need to know some specific information regarding your programs.
Thank you!

Are most of your home stays down town Oaxaca? Would it be possible to walk to school from a home stay and walk to downtown Oaxaca to visit myself in the evenings?

Beyond the classroom, what else can the school offer? I would like to travel around Oaxaca to see the regional culture and history.
Also, how easy is it to live using a credit card. I don't like to carry cash with me too often and am very used to conducting my life using cards. Will this be a problem in Oaxaca?

Hola Luz,
I've attended classes with you several times before, for various lengths of time. Last year you permitted me to take just a week or so of one-on- one conversation with you, for which I was very grateful. Would you consider doing that again?
I will only be in Oaxaca Jan 21-25 this year. I'd like to meet 3 hrs per day with an instructor just to speak in Spanish---being corrected so as to improve. I leave here Jan 20. If you prefer I'll stop in at the school to speak with you on the 21st.

Hello Luz,
Maybe you will remember me...I have attended classes in your school several times.---last in 2013, I believe. I am thinking about another trip to Oaxaca and Puerto Escondido this winter. I'd like to take a week or so of refresher classes ...conversation, same as last time. Have not been able to contact my usual hostess, Elia Irma Herrnandez Ch. Could I count on a room through your school? If so please let me know what all is available, price, etc. Joan Weigold
(I haven't decided when I'll be there yet...maybe about the end of Jan. )
