Looking over the town of Dirang and accessible by a steep road, right from the centre of the town, the beauty of this monastery shines like a jewel against the surrounding hills. The main hall, the buildings, the grounds - all are very well maintained. The garden and the flowers are a sight to behold. Though smaller in size than Tawang monastery, it is the the sheer beauty of Thupsung Dhargye Ling that recommends it for a must-visit.

Dirang Monastery or Thupsung Dhargye Ling Monastery is one of the most amazing places we visited on the trip to Tawang. I took about thousands of pictures here. Haha! and yes the Monastery is placed exactly in the middle of the mountains. The monastery has a delicious coffee shop, costs 30ruppes a cup. Please take around to the monastery you will see all the history drawn on the walls of it.

Built on top of a hill, this monastery is a very peaceful place to meditate and it also gives a panoramic view of Dirang valley. This monastery is equipped with a guest house which is usually occupied by monks and lamas coming from other region, however, you may make a request to stay for a night.

Although we stayed only 1 night in Dirang we took time to visit in the morning before continuing to Tawang. This is a very well decorated Gompa with a full prayer wheel circuit, elaborately painted walls outside, and with many well known figures as statues inside. On the sunny day we visited this was just a spectacular vision in colour. Most fascinating were the hundreds of potted plants on the steps outside the main hall giving a totally different feeling to this special place.

My friend and I visited Dirang on 8 Feb 2019. It was definitely not the best time for visiting it. The only good thing from our travel was visiting this lovely monastery.
Its quite huge in structure and extremely beautifully and ornately done interiors. The buddha looked very peaceful and serene and wee felt blissful inside the monastery after getting the blessings of both Buddha and the Dalai Lama (Pic).

If you are staying in Dirang or just passing by on your trip to Tawang, this beautiful monastry is a must-visit. Quiet & serene, this large monastry in the middle of mountains is a treat to the eyes & soul.
