A light to warn shipping was first established on the Southerly tip of the Isle of Wight in 1323. Today the distinctive octagonal tower of St.Catherine's Lighthouse provides a waymark for vessels navigating in the English Channel and a guide to vessels approaching the Solent.

Each tour is approximately 40 minutes.

It's really worth visiting lighthouse. Guide told story of the lighthouse very exhaustively. Beautiful views, even on a cloudy day.

A short but very lovely walk down the country lane to where the lighthouse stands. Very useful to have a guide to talk about the lighthouse and Marconi connections. Small fee for the guide. Very steep steps near the top but managable. Worth visiting especially as I have never been in a lighthouse before. Lovely views from the top.

Fantastic guides, they kept my 7 year old's attention throughout the tour, she was really enthusiastic about the whole afternoon and told all her friends about it. Very informative tour and relaxed, friendly atmosphere. It was a steep walk to and from the location, make sure you find the tarmac road rather than the footpath if you are unsteady on... More

We visited the lighthouse along with friends from Munich in the hope of soaking up some of the rich nautical history this part of the coastline has to offer. I can also speak for the others in our group that it was one of the most enjoyable experiences. Our guide (John) was fantastic, welcoming, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and he also brought... More

We visited St. Catherine's midweek before half term and found it very quiet. Our guided tour was very informative and unrushed which allowed us to ask lots of questions. We came away with a great knowledge of this lighthouse and especially about the service in general. As to be expected there are many steps in a lighthouse however my wife... More

We were a group of three- two adults, one 11yrd old- and this was an extremely interesting tour. Our guide from Trinity was very knowledgeable and obviously enthusiastic about his job. It's a fairly short lighthouse, so OK for those with mild vertigo and the view from the top is excellent.

Popped over yesterday for the first time in 30 years and it was a real joy. The tour is superbly done by the Brotherhood of Trinity House who look after all the UK's lighthouses. The setting down by Niton is astonishingly beautiful and worth a visit in its own right and has there is a highly regarded pub in the... More

Whilst we had planned and looked forward to this visit, it exceeded all our expectations. The tour is very bespoke, only 4 in our group, led by a knowledgable and enthusiastic guide, who was happy to answer all questions. It last around 40 minutes, and involves walking up some steep steps, but the view at the top, both external and... More

I have visited several lighthouses but this was by far the best. Cherry was our volunteer guide who was very informative in a friendly and entertaining way. I found out so much about lighthouses including why some are painted with stripes and others like St Catherine's are plain white. There are quite a few steps to climb but they are... More
