What a jewel in Sabana Park!

As others have said this was a "gift" from China. It has an interesting political storyline...of course no one just GIVES things like this away for free so the Costa Ricans had to give some concessions to the Chinese. I had a very interesting detailed conversation with a taxi driver on the way and got a lot more of the... More

A stunning structure - state-of-the-art stadium in an otherwise somewhat shabby park. The National Stadium really accentuates the joy of Costa Rican sport (football) in the NW corner of the park. And there's a brand new Starbucks just opened up across the street (to the west) from the Stadium!

This stadium was built by Chinese workers on the site of the old national stadium. It was finished in less time than it took Costa Ricans to finish one kilometer of 4 lane road near the stadium. It is used for concerts, special holiday celebrations and. of course, football (soccer). Seats are reasonably comfortable and views are almost all unobstructed.... More

I have been living in San Jose since August of 2013 and have been to two different matches in the national stadium. I went to C.R. vs. U.S.A. and C.R. vs. Mexico. Both games were awesome to go to and I loved it. I've always sat on the North or South end of the stadium and have always enjoyed it.... More

The atmosphere is a bit stuck up, but good for kids. Stadium is Olympic, so you sit far back from the game. This also makes for a less noisy stadium. Getting into the stadium, could be easier, as they limit the gates. When they should have them more open.

vendors outside sometimes sell you tickets for the wrong day, be careful. I heard the ´box office´ is at a school like a mile away from the stadium. There is only 1 entrance. You cannot take in coins or batteries for fear of fans throwing them at players which are almost not even in throwable distance because the track surrounds... More
