Firstly, bring cash with as when we tried to pay with a credit card we where told it's a bit hit and miss with the credit card machine as it loses its signal, and it did. So after rummaging around for cash for the entrance fee we where in. What a lovely castle it is, very friendly guides who where... More

Our visit today was a very enjoyable experience. The castle has been trapped in a time warp which makes it so fascinating. The two guides were very knowledgeable and gave such insight into the family history. Added to this the tearoom was delightful and we enjoyed the woodland walk with our four footed friend. Sometimes it's just nice to take... More

It's a splendid house / castle but it's really only a short visit venue. However the tea room really are not prepared for there visitors to want a cuppa on arrival ( it was a fair drive for us to get there) and we were shoowed away to visit the castle first . Worth a visit.

Thanks for visiting Thirlestane Castle and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your tour. We had a high number of coach visitors here yesterday so that would have been why they suggested you had your tour first and then visited the Tea Room afterwards. Thank you for recommending us. More

I took my family to this site and there was plenty to do for all. The grounds are beautiful and my children really enjoyed dressing up in period costumes provided. The whole experience was very pleasant until we decided to take in refreshments in the tea room. The coffee and cake were lovely - the only issue I had arose... More

If you are in the Scottish Borders please find time to visit this amazing building. We visited the tearoom at the end of lunches being service, I over heard customers commenting on the quality of food and they were told they came from the local butcher. We only wanted a hot drink and cake to keep us going as it... More

Got this as birthday treat 13th-16th May. Loved the apartments and the castle. Everyone there, include the Earl himself, made us feel very welcome. The Apartments were excellent, roomy and really well appointed. Anything that we had forgotten was already there. Tea, coffee, biscuits, orange juice, milk......All contributed to a great experience.

There is so much to see, the stories from each room very interesting. The dressed models are brilliant. The nursery has a dolls house you could spend hours looking at and still find more items in it. The garden walk is a must, a lovely day out.

This beautiful Castle is definitely worth stopping off to see, even if you just only have time to see the outside. The Guides are extremely knowledgeable and friendly, The ceilings are unique and the Nursery is truly splendid. There is so much History and has some links to Holyrood Palace - which many of you may know already. They also... More

O'k so some folk didn't think much of this place but that's the beauty of TripAdvisor, you have both good and bad opinions of somewhere or something and viewers have to make their own judgment. I liked the place and its history and the only way that people may judge is to visit it for themselves
