My husband an I spent this morning at the Cordell Museum which is now housed at The Former Working Mens Institute in Blaenavon. On our arrival we were warmly welcomed and guided through the room dedicated to Alexander Cordell, our main reason for our visit. We gradually made our way further into the building to the local museum which was fascinating... More

On a Bank Holiday Monday we stopped in this museum, it cost just £2. For that price you get a guided tour enabling us to understand why the museum was there, what it contained and some of the stories. There is also a cinema and theatre. This is the sort of museum that must thrive in today's modern world.

The museum has now settled into the workmen's hall and gives the history of Blaenafon. The room in which Alexander Cordel wrote his books and seeing all the books he wrote on display is worth seeing. The guides also show you around the hall and tell you it's history. There is a small entrance charge of £2.

May the Heritage museum has been closed while they re locate it to the Workmanship Hall opposite St Peters Church and the World Heritage Centre. The museum will open in Early 2016 and will prove to be as exciting and informative as before. Suitable for people of all ages.

Absolutly brilliant and flows with history. Big pit was excellent and the ironworks is where the Bessemer steel process was invented

industrial is so recent and can almost have a tangible quality to it. the ideal that people were just there before you working and living there. there is a sense of realism.

A fabulous location with breathtaking mountain views. The Heritage Centre was formerly a school and has been sympathetically renovated. The display of the history of mining through the ages in the area is very interesting. The café is just wonderful, with yummy food and work by local artists on display. Well worth a visit.
