About
Expect a fun-filled day on the shores of Nassau at this lively beach, popular with passengers from the cruise boats that dock nearby. Start with a dip in the water for some snorkeling or paddleboarding, then enjoy food like jerk chicken and lobster with a glass of Bahamian Junkanoo Punch from the comforts of your deck chair. Sign up for a quad-bike city tour, or a full-day watersport package for a day of excitement. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a quieter experience, consider getting a day pass at one of the resorts with a private beach. – Tripadvisor

    Great public beach.
Nice beach within walking distance of the cruise port. Not sure why so many negative reviews. Sure it's a bit crowded, just walk a little farther along, and it gets much less crowded. Rented 2 beach loungers and an umbrella for $40. We also had a small table between us to share. Loungers and umbrella were in excellent condition not falling apart as some reviews state. Yes there are vendors working the crowd trying to sell things. Just say no and they leave you alone. The sand was soft and white, and the water warm. Please remember it's a PUBLIC beach so it can get crowded, and possibly dirty at times. We would definitely go back.

    Perfectly lovely public beach
This is a public beach next to the Margaritaville resort. About a 15 minute walk from the cruise port (turn right at the end of the pier). We arrived early before the crowd arrived. Very friendly locals offered their chairs and umbrellas to rent, but they were not pushy or aggressive. They were also cleaning their beach areas. If you keep walking, there is an open area in front of the Holiday Inn where you can sit in the sand for free. Just bring your towel from the ship. I also recommend picking up a six pack or other drinks from a local package store on the way to the beach - mixed drinks at the beach bars are $12. The sand is white and the water is clear. I don’t know why the reviews here are so negative. There were some vendors selling bracelets, but they were polite and not pushy. I will definitely go back here the next time we stop in Nassau.

Nice beach close to the ship
Didn't expect to find a public beach so nice. Stopped at Crag & Tings for a $10 conch ball and they offered us two beach chairs on the house. Would have brought the swim wear if we knew it was that nice. Going back in May and will defiantly spend the day at Junkanoo beach.

Nice, clean, safe beach, not far from the cruise port, easy walking distance.
We were in Nassau on a cruise and not sure where to go as I am on a mobility scooter, and it sounded like that would make it difficult to get across to Paradise Island, or to some of the further beaches. So we did the short walk through the straw market and town, probably 3/4 of a mile to Junkanoo beach. The beach is free to use but we paid $20 to rent a Chaise lounge and umbrella for my hubs as I had my own chair with me because of my disability. The water was clear, beach clean, no seaweed. We really enjoyed it. Surf was calm. Lots of restaurants and food kiosks, vendors close by. But you’ll also pass by lots of little shops and even a McDonald’s on your way to the beach. if you have the gear with you, you can do a little snorkeling along the old dock, and we saw quite a few fish and even a lobster. There were lots of families and people there and it got pretty busy pretty fast. We had gotten off the ship and got there by about 10 AM and got a lounge chair right in the first row by the beach. Definitely recommend.

    Solid but not spectacular
We walked to the beach from our cruise ship. Pros: Easy walk to the beach from the cruise ship No need to pay for taxi The water is beautiful Plenty of chairs/umbrellas to rent (we paid $30 for 2 chairs and an umbrella) Lots of food/drink shops to choose from if you want Cons: There was a bunch of seaweed/grass in the water. The beach was very crowded when you first get there (you should walk further west to for the crowds to thin out a bit) There was a lot of smoking on the beach which isnt a knock on the beach itself but is generally gross (but probably hit and miss) There are LOTS of rocks in the water. If you try to go swimming without swim shoes you will get cut up all over the place. The rocks are so plentiful that if you walk along the water and a big wave comes the rocks will smack you in the ankle/foot as they get brought in by the wave. Overall we would rate it 3.5 stars if we could and we would still go back if we were to visit Nassau again. Being able to walk to a beach and just go for a little bit is really nice. Just make sure you walk further along the beach before settling down. There is a little grassy area if you go far enough where you can set up shop under a palm tree(s) for some free shade.

    Crowded beach
We had read mixed reviews of this beach so we gave it a try. It is within walking distance of the cruise port which was nice. Chairs and umbrellas can be rented but they are crammed in so tightly you can barely walk. People are literally right next to you. No privacy at all. The comments we read about rocks all over the beach were true. We both stubbed our toes on big rocks on the beach while walking to the bathrooms. I wish we would have saved our money and went to a less crowded beach. Food is available for purchase but very expensive.

    Buzzing with activity and adventure!
A must see and probably the most popular attraction in Nassau. We were lucky to stay at the Holiday Inn right across the street from Junkanoo beach which was filled with tourists from the cruise from 8AM-5PM every single day that we were here, as it is right at the cruise terminal. We woke up to the horn of the cruise ships and were amazed at the sheer size of it and how close it was to the heart of the small town, there were at least 5 cruise ships every day. The beach offers great swimming areas, chair, umbrellas, massages, seafood and drinks. Most of the water activities were just blocks away. You can walk to Fish Fry (just a couple of blocks from the Junkanoo beach) which is known for its seafood and rent kayaks and jetskiis right there. We negotiated and got a jet skii rental for $150 an hour + 2 chairs for $20. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the jetskii ride and swimming on the beach. This area was quieter and less busier than the main beach which is exactly what we were hoping for. We found vegan food at the Bush Garden restaurant in Fish Fry, they had plant-based burger and spagetti and plant-based meatballs. Definitely a place to visit and stroll around!

    Fun lil beach
Fun time close to the port. We enjoyed our day at Junkanoo. It got busy but not too crowded . Alot of activities for purchase nut no one was pushy. Just told them no thanks. Tomiko took care of all our drinks food orders , and set us up with chairs and umbrellas. $10 per chair then extra for umbrella but it was for the whole day Lots of fun and music was popping . Beach was clear and clean . We had ages from 13 to 71 with us .

    Worth a visit
Junkanoo beach is about 20 minute walk from the cruise terminal. On route you pass many gift shop including the Straw market. The beach itself is not as pretty as some pictures may show although it was very clean. We made the best of it, hiring sun loungers and a parasol from a lovely local man called General, who was a pleasure to meet. Swimming in the sea was fabulous, I would recommend a visit if you’re wanting to stay fairly close to the port, rather than going on an excursion.

I have never been this harassed. I didn't need or want a chair, i had a simple small bag for my snorkel gear. I went down to the water's edge, sat down to put flippers on, and got bumrushed by a guy and another dude wearing security gear. I was at first asked to move down further, since half or more of the beach is reserved exclusively for Margaritaville. Okay. Moved down past that line.
Go to get in, get stopped again, told I needed to rent a chair. I didn't want a chair. I eventually got so mad I gave them the 10$ he demanded for the 30 minutes I wanted to swim to go away. Guy and the security guy came from inside of a little shack about 500 feet down from where the Margaritaville line ends, and they extorted dozens of folks.

We enjoyed Junkanoo Beach, which was about a 15 minute walk from our cruise ship. When we arrived, we were asked if we wanted to rent a chair, but we had brought towels with us so we politely declined. A fellow from the Sandy Beach Restaurant approached us with a menu, and we ordered the lobster snack and the chicken wings. The lobster was a lot more than a snack - it was HUGE and the best lobster I've ever eaten. The sand was beautiful, the weather perfect, and the water breathtaking. Honestly, I could have swam there all day. I would definitely go back.

The beach was overcrowded and just ok. They charged $30 for a chair and umbrella. If you buy anything at the bar and restaurant, your meal will be 25% more than expected after “taxes and gratuities”, eg $32 for empanadas and water served takeout from the counter. Flies everywhere. My son saw one crushed with someone’s drink in the blender. Ewww.

I have visited this beach a few times now when the cruise ship stops in Nassau. It’s a beach that I can walk easily to but it is pretty small and there’s always construction going around nearby. I like going though because it is so close and I don’t have to rely on taxis or anything to get my back to the port on time. It’s free/ a public beach and has a few bars to stop at on the way to it. It’s usually fairly clean too!

What used to be a nice public beach is now surrounded with construction of a new resort that has limited the beach area. A few years back we had a nice swim and drunks at the island shack nearby with Caribbean music.
This time we rented chaises and an umbrella and stayed until it started to rain. We walked twenty minutes back to our cruise ship

You can take 2 towels from the ship and not rent anything or they offered us chairs for $10/per person with WIFI and free smoothies all day for kids. Music was being played and there were good drink specials. We got 4 Bahama Mamas for $20 at Seagulls. There is a free public restroom and showers.

We got off our ship this morning and walked to Junkanoo beach. The main road was under construction, so we were redirected down side streets. As soon as you are off the pier you are pursued by people trying to sell you something. We had a woman run out and grab us and slap bracelets on our wrists then demand money for them. Once at the beach the barrage of people trying to sell you something continued every 5 mins. If you say no, they sit down next to you and won’t stop talking til you give them money to go away. I love snorkeling so got away from them for the hour I was in the water. While the water is beautiful on the outside, the bottom is littered in garbage and pretty devoid of fish. We wanted to walk to Queen’s staircase after the beach, but decided to just go back to the ship. I think had we left the ship with the large groups of people a little later it would have been fine. If you book an excursion you would be fine as well. Some of the resorts offer day passes too, which wouldn’t be a bad idea. Not many times have I felt unsafe on vacation, but this was one of those times.

I have mixed feelings about this beach. I absolutely loved the party vibes and thought $40 was reasonable for the two chairs and the umbrella. What kind of killed the mood was the guy who kept telling us, "Don't forget to tip yo boy." The thing is, we don't like carrying cash into areas like this because it's dangerous. I assumed most local touristy places accept credit or debit, but no, most places here demand cash. However, even if I had the cash readily available, it's not comfortable to be reminded every few minutes to tip. Other than that, I loved the fun loud music and being able to drink at the beach. You can't do that where I'm from (Southern California).

The ocean is beautiful and enjoyed the sights walking back to the ship. It was a bit scary when I separated from my husband for a bit, I immediately ran into a strange local guy who insisted on walking with me. I would not feel safe coming here alone. However, in a group it's a lot of fun.

Bring cash! Walk into the middle of the beach and several vendors will rent you a couple chairs for $20. Tip them more and they’ll deliver the drinks and curry to your chair!!
Beach is rocky so wear water socks. But, for a few hours of swimming without a crowd, this was great. 15 minute walk to the port. Cabs if you want to ride.
