This so hyped up on line that we felt we HAD to go. Very underwhelmed. Prices were the same as local restaurants and the food was exactly the same. We went to Goldie's which is pretty famous but waited an hour for food...yes I realize there are signs saying it is slow service there were so many other things I could have done with my time than sit in a restaurant. Food was decent but not exceptional. The rest of Arawak Cay was sketchy. Also catching the jitney from here was a longer wait than usual and you are also standing in a high risk area. Not my favourite.

This is the area to be when you want live music, dj playing music, souvenirs, great dine in restaurants and take out food with an area to sit and enjoy the sound of the waves at the beach. This is the place to be, at any time of the day you can get good food beer and music. Taxis available and tons of parking when we drove here. Enjoy and thank me later

This was recommended by our taxi driver from the airport. Nice walk from downtown along the water. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Nice atmosphere. Lots of locals, not just cruise tourists. Most of the menus offer the same choices, so we had drinks and appetizers one place and dinner at another. Worth the visit!

I had the pleasure of having my 10th Wedding Anniversary dinner at this location. It was a treat especially for the first timers that were invited. This being my third visit, I was attracted by the ambiance, great food, service and reasonable prices!!! Would recommend others to try it too.

This is a very cool place that the locals call "Fish Fry" because it is a little island that has lots of food shacks all in a row that specialize in, what else?, fried fish. You drive over the bridge, turn right, and park across the street. We went to O Andros, which seems to have the best T-A review, and it was great. Totally informal, as cheap as you will find, beer and soda, etc. I had the cracked conch. Delicious.

People talk about food costs in the Bahamas...well why not go and eat where the folks who live there eat? And this is the place great local dishes at even better prices! Conch Fritters to die for and conch stew or grouper to die for! Take the #10 bus for a buck and you are there in just minutes and you'll be grateful for the bus back after a fun eating experience... no matter where we ate we were always happily surprised with how good the places were. And it is part of the Bahamas experience, mon! Gary & Susan

Try conch salad at Seafood Haven on Arawak Cay. Prices are reasonable and the food is great. Eating is expensive on the island but you will get value for your dollar here. Go upstairs for the view. Clean establishment. Alfred Butterfield is proud owner and will make you welcome. His place has a doorman to admit only desireable customers.
Closed on Wednesdays. Tell him a little white poodle sent you. He'll understand.

Arawak Cay (Fish Fry) is one of the best places to eat. My goal is to try eat at each and every one of the local eateries in the years to come. My favorites so far are Goldies, Twin Brothers and Seafood Haven. Best conch around and if all the locals go there, it must be good! Prices are great too! Not only great food, but you can talk with all of the locals and they will give you some great tips on things to do and where to go. And don't forget Junkaroo!

I ate three times at Arawak Cay (aka "The Fish Fry" to the locals) during a one-week stay in Nassau, and only rain kept me from going back one last time. Basically little more than a row of numerous restaurant-shacks, the food is the freshest in Nassau, and the beer the cheapest.
At Goldies we chowed down on great, made-to-order conch salad for $10, while drinking local Sands beers at 3 for $5! Right near Goldies, near the west entrance to Arawak Cay is a tiny booth called King. The owner is a fellow name Aldrin King, one of the friendliest locals on the island. His mother fries up amazing snapper while Aldrin makes the best conch salad on the island, chopping every single ingredient in front of you while he chats you up and scarcely looks at the chopping board! It is somewhat spicy, with lime and orange squeezed on top of a mound of tender conch, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers and a smattering of minced hot pepper. Locals drink beer, and play checkers and dominoes on the tiny patio, while the music from the local dance places wafts through the air.
Awesome food worth a try at Arawak Cay includes conch fritters, cracked conch (tender morsels of light-tasting conch chopped, battered and deep fried), fish and chips (try grouper if they have it) and pan-fried snapper. Local beers like Kalik and Sands tend to be smooth and light, similar to Corona.
The washrooms for most of the restaurants are shared public buildings. They are clean and safe.
When travelling, one way that you can tell whether a restaurant is good by whether it is crowded with local s. That`s the way it is at Arawak Cay. The places are a mix of tourists and locals, and a visit is a great opportunity to experience the real Nassau. Not all the restaurants are open at noon, and it`s best to visit after sundown when temperatures are a little cooler. It`s a pleasant 10-15 minute walk down the beach from the British Colonial hotel downtown (add five minutes if you are on a cruise ship), or a cheap cab ride.

If you wish to hang out with the locals in a safe environment and experience non-pricey awesome bahamian food, this is the spot!! Cops are always on site and you can hang out there all night being it is in walking distance from the ship ports.Im a frequent travellor to the Bahamas and every time im in Nassau Arawak Cay is the first place i go. The best mixed drinks, the best fish dinners know around town. All of the huts serve tasty food. Twin Brothers is one of my favorite spots.

Is there a place to rent beach chairs or umbrellas?

If you wanted to walk there - which direction do you walk when you come out of the cruise terminal?
Written 3 March 2019
When you get out of the terminal, take a right. Find and follow Bay Street towards the West. It's just over 2kms to walk there. Bring comfortable shoes.

How do you get there from the cruise ship port? My husband and I are going on Carnival next week and we both love seafood and would like to go there.

How much is a cab from cruise ship to Arawak Cay? And do I have to arrange return trip at the same time or can I just grab an available cab?
Written 25 September 2016
Hi, not entirely sure but I think it's about US $10 pp. Independent taxi drivers are stationed at the cruise port. If you like your driver (be sure to ask for their operators license) you can ask him/her to return for you at a specified time. Otherwise, there are also a few drivers at Arawak Cay for persons needing a ride back.
If you're feeling adventurous, you can also "catch a jitney" (ride the bus). The bus stop is a short walk from the port and stops in front of Arawak Cay.
