Brecon Mountain Railway was built on part of the abandoned Brecon & Merthyr Railway which was originally built in 1859. Travel behind a vintage Steam Locomotive in our all-weather observation coaches and admire the spectacular views on your 10 mile round journey. The railway climbs to Torpantau, high in the Brecon Beacons before returning Pontsticill Station. Visit our Steam Museum, Children's Play area and Lakeside Café. At Pant Station we have Tearooms, Gift Shop and a Workshop. Facilities for disabled passengers including ramps, toilets and an adapted carriage to accommodate wheelchairs.

On the way up sit in the last coach. Stand out on the platform for the best view or if it’s hot. Avoid the coach right behind the engine in hot weather. The coach is stuffy. Consider taking a morning train up, bringing lunch and...More

We visited the railway for Mother's Day. Me, my partner and my 6 year old daughter. It was a really lovely day and we all enjoyed. It was rather expensive for what it was and we wouldn't go again.

Very disappointed with this short return trip. The railway either runs through a cutting or is completely overgrown with trees on the banks which spoil any views. When you get to the end of the line there is absolutely nothing there. The return trip is...More

We took our visiting friends for a trip on the steam train, what a great trip. Stunning scenery all the way, with a refreshment stop on the way back. This was excellent value and well worth a visit for both adults and children

Only twenty minutes bus ride from Merthyr Tydfil to Pant Cemetery, then five minutes walk along the lane to Pant station. The train journey takes you right up into the hills above reservoirs and through forests to Torpantau in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The...More

We had no problem with the experience on the train and the view of the reservoir was lovely, but much of the journey was through forest with no view at all. We were able to take our dog, at a cost of £2.50, so as...More
