Magens Bay
About
This horseshoe-shaped tropical beach is perfect for all manner of activities, from kayaking and water sports to sunbathing and picnicking. Besides working on a tan, locals also recommend hiking along the nature trails for spectacular ocean views from the scenic hillsides—especially from the Mountain Top lookout. As Magens Bay is a popular port of call for cruises and a frequent stop on island tours, it does get busy. If you're looking for some peace and privacy, target the fringe areas and visit on weekdays. There's also an entry fee to the beach. – Tripadvisor

Do Not buy anything from the shop or bar. Complete Rip off!
Magen’s Bay in itself is beautiful. It has an amenity where you can use the bathroom, outdoor shower and changing room that’s probably why there’s a fee to enter the “resort”. However, I DO NOT recommend anybody to buy anything from their bar or retail shop. And that’s an advise anybody should take with a grain of salt. Unless you’re willing to pay $20 per chair and some do not come with an umbrella. You will also set it up by yourself. The bar is expensive, the retail shop is too expensive, all the products they sell are a RIP OFF! We bought 2 sets of goggles bc we forgot to pack the kids goggles and they were begging us to get them a pair, we bought 2 for $50! There’s a pharmacy in Haven Site and they sell goggles for $8/piece. So please for any cruisers or tourists, DO NOT support the business operating in Magen’s Bay bc it’s a complete rip off and it’s taking advantage of tourists in the area. The water in Magen’s Bay is crystal clear, the waves are gentle, great area for pictures bc it’s surrounded by small islands. It’s a virgin island and there are no high rise buildings or hotels around the area unlike Florida beaches. But once again, DO NOT by anything from the bar or retail shop unless you’d like to get ripped off!

    Non cruise ship days only!
We went on day we’re there were no cruise ships in town and we got there early, about 9:30 AM, and it was great. It never got crowded, expect down by the bar and chair rentals - we went to the far end of the beach and grabbed a picnic table early - I highly recommend doing this & bringing your own chairs. We walked down to get a drink once, they have food, typical USVI prices. When we left, around 3, there were quite a bit of people at the beach, it was only annoying when a group of 20 screaming children planted themselves next to us. The beach was calm and serene all day. Must go when there’s no cruise ships!!

    Beautiful Beach- ANGRY locals!
We spent a week in St. John, and my husband likes to stop and swim at Magens Bay before the airport. Such a beautiful place!! Unfortunately the hatred of the locals carries towards tourists "white" tourists? over here. I mean, to single out a white couple sitting on rented chair and start SCREAMING across the parking lot demanding to know if they had purchased a ticket. The lady held up her ticket and the raging racist stormed off without a word. The hell with these locals in USVI. We will no longer fuel their economy with our tourism dollars.

Top 10 beach in the world? Yes, I believe it!
Was told Magen’s Bay Beach is on the Top 10 list of best beaches in the world. After visiting, I can understand why. Simply beautiful - and amazing clear water. There was a walk up restaurant/bar and also a waitress that walked the beach to take drink orders. I would go back to the USVI simply to visit Magen’s Bay again. It was that nice!

Beautiful Caribbean Beach great for families!
Beautiful beach. Arrive early because it gets pretty crowded. Far end of bay is always less crowded. Try to arrive early because restaurant closes early on cruise days around 4pm.

Best Painkillers in the Virgin Islands
This is one of the world’s top beaches and we understand why. We came on a day when there were no cruise ships at St Thomas. It wasn’t too crowded and we got a great spot with chairs and beach umbrellas. The water was clear, cool and wonderful. This is not one of the better snorkeling spots, but it sure is relaxing. The food was typical beach food. It was fairly expensive, but adequate. The beach bar makes the best Painkiller I’ve ever had, and I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the Virgin Islands. What’s even better is that Quency takes your order and delivers it to you even in the water! This is a great place for families and friends. We’ll be back.

Beautiful beach with something for everyone
This was the first beach we visited and it did not disappoint us. We had 2 littles, 5 and 7 and this was perfect for them to play in the sand and practice their snorkeling skills and see turtles. More experienced snorkelers can venture further out to be reefs where there were more fish, eels, sharks (the friendly kind) and more turtles. Water was crystal clear the day we were there. I am a birder so was able to take a short secluded path and saw plenty of birds. The beach has lots of shade and picnic tables. We actually went to the far end so stayed away from the crowds and bar area where it was much more relaxing.

Top 3 Beach Experience of my Life
Absolutely amazing. Went here in 2007 with my fiance at the time, and our 7 month old. The water was warm, and the white sand beach was beautiful. The slope into the water is EXTREMELY gradual, so is good for wading and swimming if you go far enough. The most awesome thing was the lack of waves, due to the shape of the bay. Our 7 month old was able to sit in the water and never once got knocked over by an incoming wave. 15/10

Great place to see a gorgeous sunset
This beach is fantastic. It does cost to enter but the day we went, we were able to find parking easily and the beach was not crowded. We did make sure to go on a day when there were no cruise ships in town. I don't usually get in the water at beaches, but made an exception. The water was crystal clear, warm and very relaxing. Also the bar serves and awesome painkiller. We rented 2 chairs and an umbrella and relaxed until they were taken and put away. We wanted to see the sunset here because we were told it was a great place to see it. We sat at the picnic style tables that are available until it was time for the sunset. We were not disappointed. We were treated to a perfectly gorgeous sunset!

    Best beach on the island!
This is our favorite beach! It is so beautiful! Soft white sand, crystal clear water! Very sheltered bay so the water is very calm. Restaurant and bar right on beach. Showers, changing areas and bathrooms all right there!

Me and my wife had an amazing time at Magens Bay. We took Taxi to the beach and paid 14 dollars for a couple just for the entrance fees. We enjoyed the beach, walked miles on the beach and had a drink and relaxed. Amazing crystal blue water with houses on the mountains.

Nice beach, not quite one of the World's most beautiful as the travel magizines like to say, but very nice. Can be crowded when cruise ships are in port. Several sea turtles were present during our visit.

My recent visit was left much to be desired, largely due to the exorbitant charges for basic amenities like chairs and umbrellas. While the beach itself was beautiful, the $40 fee for a chair and umbrella rental felt like a rip-off.

The beach was crowded, and finding a spot to relax without paying extra was nearly impossible. It's disappointing that the management chooses to exploit visitors rather than provide a more reasonable service. As a result, what could have been a relaxing day by the ocean turned into a frustrating and overpriced experience.

I would recommend looking for alternative beaches in the area that offer better value for money and a more enjoyable experience overall.

It’s a beautiful beach but the place is a zoo when the cruise ship taxis drop off their parties. Way too many people and the visitors were rude. I would recommend going on a day when no cruise ships dock.

This is a beautiful place to hang out for the day while cruise ships aren’t in port . The restrooms are kept clean & the drinks always cold

One of the most beautiful beaches on St Thomas island. Crystal clear water with white sand. A stunning view of the bay into the mountains. Bathroom, food and bar. Taxi stand and beach chairs and umbrella rentals.

Easy to see why this beach get so many great reviews. Good amount of parking available (pay to enter), picnic tables available, food onsite, beach chair to rent. The sand is a beautiful soft white, large beach and the water is calm and gorgeous. A must see if you visit this island. We were lucky it was not crowded at all when we visited.

Who voted this one of of the worlds best beaches?!!! It was awful!! We arrived off a cruise ship and got a taxi there. 15 dollars per person for the taxi for a 15 minute journey. There were 15 of us in the taxi, you do the maths!!!!! The beach was dirty, seaweed everywhere and no room to swing a cat! 7 dollars to go on the beach and another 20 dollars each if you want a sunbed/umbrella!!! No room to put a towel. One bar/restaurant serving food and drinks with a queue that was so long we gave up and left the beach. Never experienced anything like it! Maybe if 3 cruise ships hadn’t arrived on the island at the same time it may have been a different experience.

Skip Magens bay and go to Sapphire Beach. We paid $7 per person just to enter and the place is not that pretty. We also came under the impression that we could have breakfast here but they start serving at 10am and there’s no breakfast. The food is extremely expensive ($29 for a pizza +15% gratuity). Also the beach it’s self is not that pretty. Needless to say we paid $30 for a taxi to get here + the $14 to come inside and we left within 45 minutes to go to Sapphire. SAVE YOUR MONEY
