Formerly a slave-trading market, this open-air fruit and vegetable market is a great place to stop and sample the fresh produce, especially the local specialty - genips.

This is a small version of the straw market in Nassau. The vendors have their tables set up with items for sale, some factory made and some hand made. I love these markets but the people at this one were really bad. A woman even made hateful comments of a discriminatory manner as we walked away.

These markets offer nothing of any real interest nor any good of any particular local character or value. Except that they are on the road between the port and the town, I suspect that they would have disappeared long ago.

I asked the hotel concierge for a recommendation, despite all the poor reviews here, and she assured me that Market Square was a great place to go. She was wrong. Alas, Market Square is the worst. Aggressive hawkers in every doorway reminds you more of Bangkok in the 70s or the bazaar scenes in the Indiana Jones movies. The shops... More

Market square is a nice, friendly walking area with shops, bars, restaurants and other beach activities. Exploring the shops is like hunting for hidden treasures. You can find some unique items and reasonable prices.

Great place to pickup XL tees for $5.00. Nearby taxi service will take you all over island for $25 each. A great way to see most of the island in a short amount of time. Shopping in town is over priced. Do your homework before assuming real stones and silver jewelry or you my find yourself holding an Asia imitation... More

Market Square reminded me of the same touristy things you would find right off the port of Nassau or Freeport, only difference here is you have to walk away from the port towards the water front and downtown area. We didn’t buy anything, just walked through the different vendor tents before moving on to explore the other shopping area a... More

Everything from Burberry purses to shot glasses are being sold by different vendors. You can barter prices, and everyone is very friendly and helpful. You do not feel pressured to buy anything-- which I like.

Most Caribbean stops off cruise ships all seem to have straw markets, where most locals sell in the same area, all the same souvnoirs basically, if you like bargaining with the locals check it out. A long walk from where most cruise ships dock or you can catch an open bus for $3 each way.
