They say they are open when the ships are in, but that is not always true. When I was able to get in one Sunday in 2016, it was interesting. Trying with guests several times in 2018 and 2019, no one was there.

We climbed stairs (took wider ones 81 in total just at the base, not the 99 1/2 a block away). We knew the castle was closed as it’s still undergoing storm repairs. There are some lovely views at the top of the stairs and just...More

Well... it's still closed. It would have been nice to have some notice of that before walking up the hill from the bay.

If you make it to the top of 99 Steps it worth a short side trip. You can still view the stone tower and the statue of the three women. Also keep an eye out for the many iguanas rooming the parking lot. Unfortunately there...More

Did pirate tour as excursion from Royal Caribbean cruise. This did not meet expectations as most places visited were still closed from hurricane Irma from 2017. Our tour guide wasn’t, he basically drove the bus and told us when to get off and on. If...More

damage wasn't too bad across the island. looks like it is fully recovered. but blackbeard's castle was just closed for repairs without any warnings or signage. a bit poor.
