About
Located on St. Thomas' north shore, the beach at Hull Bay faces Inner and Outer Brass cays and attracts fishermen, beachcombers and, because it is open to rough Atlantic waters, is considered one of the best places to surf on the island.

Heard this was a great beach to view sunsets so we headed that way - even google maps got us a little lost but we were glad we persisted. Great sunset pics and a nice little beach. Not crowded but a nice little group was there to watch the sunset.

Ratings for a beach depend on what you want in a beach. If you want a huge beach with a lot of people go to Magen's Bay. If you want a beach with decent snorkeling, beach waiters and a fun vibe go to Coki Point. If you want an out of the way beach that you are likely the only people there and like to beach comb Hull Bay may be the beach for you. On the day we visited there was one other couple there that were tourists. There were a couple of locals that were working on a boat and that was it. As far as the water goes it is very rocky, so you can snorkel, but you have to get past the rocks. There is a boat ramp that you can walk down to get into deeper water. There are several small boats anchored in front of the beach, no lifeguard, and no designated swimming area. There are piles of small rocks in islands on the beach that offer good beach combing. I read a review that said there were bathrooms available, but I didn't see them. There is a bar/restaurant across the sandy, one lane road that is open during the day and serves food and beverages. This is the one place on the island that I have seen surfers. The surf breaks outside the bay on the left side and it was interesting to watch the surfers. Just a warning, if you take a cab to get here it may take a while to get one to pick you up. This might not be the best destination if you have to be back at your cruise ship by a certain time unless you rent a car.

We heard this was a hidden gem and very quiet beach with good snorkeling. If one heads to the right side of the rocks, there is a long stretch of reef and lots of sea life. We saw a lot of fish we had not seen before either here or other places in the world. My advice is to take your time and look for the small fish going in and out of the coral. We made it all the way to the end of the rocks and slowly made our way back. It took 90 minutes going at a leisurely swim. We had a picnic in the shade at the picnic table there. There are a lot of trees so natural shade is quite easy to find. We did a 2nd snorkel while here. There are no amenities but that was perfect for us. I highly recommend it.

Odd beach, imo. Didn't go in the eve for the sunset.
Also, didn't stay long. Interesting edge at the place. Pictures give a good idea of what you'll see when you arrive. Did hear a snorkeler talk about an eel. And did see tarpon hanging around that boat ramp.

We just returned from St. Thomas and had a wonderful day at Hull Beach. There was one other family with us on the beach and only a few locals. Fish tacos and beer available at an open air restaurant steps off the beach. Very relaxing and we saw several turtles as we snorkeled. No a large beach, but if you know what you are doing, I would highly recommend.

great beach for close to shore snorkeling (for older kids) but not for swimming. very rocky and drops off quick, highly recommend water shoes. docks many boats in water here. sand is very HOT but shade available at trees close by. limited parking but free - very quiet. not really family friendly compared to Magen's bay. bar/restaurant is there.

I visited Hull Bay today and it is certainly a dog-friendly beach, but if that's not what you've come for, then skip this one.
The bar and restaurant are great, and it's not high traffic, so that might be a reason to stop by too.
This beach had lots of trash on it on this particular visit. If you want white sand, and water you can walk into without worrying about what you'll step on, try some of the other beaches with high reviews. Otherwise, If you've got a pooch, this is the one.

This place is really hard to find and not worth the drive. The roads are awful and the beach is narrow and rocky. St Thomas has lots of nice beaches but this isn't one of them!

If it is a Tuesday or Wednesday with 5-6 cruise ships in port and the goal is to avoid Megan's Bay at all cost, this is a quiet alternative for a relaxing day in the sun without the crowds on the north shore of St. Thomas. It is definitely a local's beach with many small boats moored on the west side, occasional dog walkers, and a few beach combers. There are a few deserted chairs sprinkled in the shade of the trees, otherwise, bring bug spray, a beach towel, water, snacks, sun screen, snorkel gear and prepare for a lazy day of peace and contentment.
The calm beach close to shore is rocky, but offers several sandy openings for easy entry for swimming or for snorkeling on the east side of the bay along the rocks. The fish are scant, but enough to encourage one to continue further out, motivated by the persistence of the pelicans who constantly dive and gulp! A sting ray seems to enjoy playing hide and seek.
Out past the buoys the rushing waves spurred by the east wind are a serious invitation for surfing toward a separate smaller beach just west of the main area. This would be a much more active area if the surfers were meeting the challenge...and if not, kick back and enjoy the moment in paradise.

This is the second time we've snorkeled at Hull Bay. This is a special beach frequented by locals. Our day was sunny and gorgeous. The water was perfect and calm. We saw tropical fish and just enjoyed our family time together. It was a weekday mid-morning to early afternoon. A perfect time to visit..not crowded at all! Just a note: beach was very clean. Will DEFINITELY do this on next trip! Can't wait!!

How does one night snorkel at Hlull Bay? I saw someone said something about a flashlight but how does that work? Is there an outfit that provides this service?

Can you please tell me if the snorkeling is at least almost as good as Coki Beach?
Also, about how much time does it take to drive from where the cruise ships dock to Hull Bay?
Thanks a lot for your help,
