- Flyershockey37 contributionsWonderful beachLocal bartender recommended this beach. Very quiet. Perfectly still and clear water. Sea turtles swim right by you. Since we were here for a work trip, we didn't get to the beach until 4. We stayed until about 645 pm and it was tricky getting a cab. So, advice would be to get there earlier when cabs are still plentiful.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 17 March 2024
- Chris TAttleboro, Massachusetts19 contributionsMust Visit for snorkelersThis is an amazing beach and it’s free. There’s a restroom and shower area. I was hesitant to visit at first because of some reviews but they were wrong. The beach was clean, the water is calm and crystal clear and the locals were friendly. We got there about 8:30am and I saw my first of about 12-15 turtles within 5 minutes of snorkeling. I also saw a few sting rays and a barracuda along with multiple varieties of fish . There’s plenty of street parking and you are basically on the university campus. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes to snorkel and is looking to swim with the turtles.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 April 2024
- Tracy CGilbert, Arizona18 contributionsTurtles! This beach is near the airport and university so you may not think of it in your planning but the bay has a lot turtles. I would call this more of a local beach. While there are restrooms and showers, that is really all that is available. There are a couple of food trucks with food and drink options. I recommend you bring your own chairs, snorkel gear and an ice chest with drinks and snacks so you can save your money. There a lot of trees so you don't really need to bring a shade. We didn't have snorkel gear with us but with the clear water, we could still see the turtles. We wish we had snorkel gear but we still enjoyed the day.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 1 May 2024
- Joseph M5 contributionsBrewer, scratch that, Turtle BayPlan your transportation ahead of you can, we tried to use the public bus but was unable to get reliable information from their website so we ended up walking about a mile then lucked into a taxi back into town ($10 per passenger). We saw it was a good snorkeling sport for sea turtles so we went. We made it about waist deep to shoulder deep and experienced two medium sized sea turtles, several small and medium fish, and a medium sized sting ray. It was the highlight of our day in port and if you're after checking out some wild life this beach has small crowds and plenty of critters from pelicans to turtles.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 May 2024
- Alexis SLaGrangeville, New York33 contributionsLocals, good spot to get to know stuff you may not get to know otherwise...oh and octopus ;)We decided to just go out and catch the sunset for my birthday on one of the many gorgeous beaches, ended up here at Brewer's a little too late, the sun had settled, yet there were plenty of locals here enjoying this lovely view and smaller beach just on the University property/road. We had a nice conversation with a local diver about where to go and what we might see, she had seen octopus here in the bend of shore, we also were graced by people practicing fire dancing which was pretty awesome to get to see. Along with young folks that had a fairly intoxicated one in their group who we heard was a fighter....made some havoc amongst the peacefulness. But, a lovely spot to get to meet some locals and find out good stuff about the island!Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 July 2024

We visited 7 of the 10 major beaches on the island and kept coming back to this one. It offers calm waters in a well protected bay with clear waters.
Pros: Not too busy, wide beach, shells, snorkeling (turtles and fish are here), toilet facilities, food trucks open along road, family friendly
Cons: Literally across from airport so you see and hear all the airplanes coming and going, no shower facilities, parking along the street

People rave about Magen's Bay, and it's nice, no doubt. People recommend Coki beach, too. And we visited as well.
For my money, Brewers Bay Beach was our favorite. It's calm, warm waters, beautiful, clean sand, snorkeling for turtles and manta rays, facilities and easy parking and access made Brewers the only beach we visited more than once.

Beach had weeds, rocks. However there was trees in the back that you could sit under. This beach does not compare to Megan's bay. A lot of loud music, charcoal grilling, large family gatherings, several groups smoking weed.

Someone recommended trying Brewer's Bay beach to see turtles and some rays. It is fairly shallow drop off and, in a noonish visit, we did follow one turtle lunching away and then tried to keep up with a ray that had another fish hitching a ride. Interesting; a bit out of the way. But they do have a change area (and bathrooms) that makes it a bit more accessible than some others. Would have liked a greater variety of fishes (perhaps like that seen at Secret Harbour on the East End).

Brewer's Bay is an okay beach, but compared to other beaches in St. Thomas, it’s just slightly above average. The highlight was the decent snorkeling, where we spotted a few sea turtles, which was a nice treat. Watching planes take off from the nearby airport added a unique touch, but the overall beach experience didn’t quite measure up to the island’s more stunning spots. It’s worth a visit if you’re nearby, but I’d recommend exploring other beaches first.

Brewer's Bay was the largest beach area we visited while in St. Thomas. The beach itself was very rocky and lots of litter strewn about. The two biggest pluses were the amount of shade trees and the snorkeling. We saw numerous sea turtles as well as different fish. They did have nice restrooms that were clean with ample room for changing. Also, if you enjoy seeing planes land, you will love this place as it is right next to the airport.

This is one of the closest beaches to downtown Charlotte Amalie. On a Saturday afternoon, it appeared most of the town was here! Cars were parked along both sides of Route 30 as we drove past on our way to Mermaids Chair. It was still crowded on our return, so we didn’t stop. However, I got a peek of Brewers calm , protected waters and long sandy beach as our plane headed down the runway for takeoff (hint: sit on plane’s left side). There are prettier beaches on the island, but this might be a convenient alternative depending on your schedule and hotel location. And if you don’t spot a turtle, you are sure to see a plane or two. And yes, the airport runway extends into the water!

I’m staying on St John but my flight home is at 5:00 pm now that delta keeps moving it. My wife, son and I are looking for a spot to kill time before our flight and we are considering Brewers Bay. Would there happen to be a location to leave our luggage while we enjoy one last snorkel? Or does anyone know of a location to leave our luggage safely near the airport

for those who have been here recently...is there beer available at the food truck or close by? Washrooms close? This looks like a nice quiet beach (which I love) but my husband will want beer. Also will there be a problem getting back to the cruise port?

There is a lil shack ove by the side with red lights, look like a red submarine , wash rooms, damn I forgot , but it was way far from the edge I was on n got picked up from.

We are leaving Saturday for a cruise that stops in St Thomas. Brewer's Bay sounds very attractive to us. How big is the hill to get to the beach from the UVI? How did you arrange transportation back to the port?

Can you rent or get beach chairs, umbrellas at Brewar's ?
Written 10 July 2016
I didn't see any rental facilities, just food vending trucks

I`ve heard that some of the "buses" try to charge you taxi prices to get around the Island. how can we avoid this and just pick out a bus. I wonder If the fares are still just $1 ?
Written 18 May 2016
We were there in August and it was $1. It was difficult to tell the local bus from the charter shuttles. Basically if one pulled up we'd ask how much, if they said didn't say $1 we said we'd wait. Then locals arrived and we looked to them for help. I think they did have some kind a licence or designation, but it was difficult to spot. If it's freshly painted and shiny, and full of tourists, it's probably a taxi.
Written 21 May 2016
We're visiting next week. Do you know what a taxi would cost from the cruise ship port? Not sure how long you were there - maybe just a day visit like us.
Thanks for the helpful review.
