    Educational, informative
This fort is less maintained than the one in Christiansted, but it is locally run. It offers so much information about island history, particularly the emancipation and all that led up to it. A staff member told us they had worked hard to update the info for the 175th anniversary last year in 2023. It definitely shows. I wish I could have a printout of it. There are also fabulous art displays, sea glass and Chaney, and a room of beautiful mahogany furniture.

Nice exhibits on island's history in a run-down fort.
The fort is pretty run-down, but there are a few interesting exhibits inside. It's $5 admission, and likely you'll get a self-guided tour. The rooms talk more about the history of slavery and emancipation on the island than the fort's history. But it is interesting nonetheless. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, just some big fans if you are lucky. No windows in most rooms, since it was a fort. It'll get very hot and stuffy after a while. But especially on a cool day this is a good visit for a slice of the island's history.

    Art & History!
The fort is so cool! The battlements offer a great view of the sea. Inside is a mix of historical exhibits about St Croix events and modern art exhibitions about what St Croix is now. Lots to see and learn!

And terrible signage. This museum should either be free, or they should invest in proper signs. Papers were falling off signs, there were loads of spelling errors and one display was written as being "adapted from wikipedia". Not okay.

I recommend anyone visiting St Croix stop and see the fort or take a picture from the pier. I can’t imagine it will be here all that much longer or be in any shape to be a tourist attraction. Can’t imagine why there isn’t a historical society preserving this piece of history for the cultural significance. Yes it was the smaller fort compared to Christiansted and no cruise ships are not docking here but why doesn’t someone restore it or at least slap a fresh coat of paint on it? Shaking my head.

The fort is right next to the pier, and there is parking in the lot across the street. The exterior looks pretty rough and could use some maintenance, as does the area around it. It has very interesting history though, and can be seen in a short time because it is fairly small. If you can get to Christiansted, the fort there is much better maintained and larger.

Locked the door as I walked up. It was just before 3. They said that with so few people coming they close early. With COVID, the cruise ships aren’t bringing crowds, so they lock up early. The exterior grounds are nice, the location is convenient. It isn’t a large place, so you could probably see everything over a lunch outing. It’s also in a convenient spot to visit and see other sites.

I took my wife and high school kids (15 & 17) to the fort during spring break while vacationing on the island.

It's cool that the fort is still there, but it isn't in great condition. The fort at Christiansted is better maintained. There is a cool room with some antiques as well as a rough looking room with literature regarding the slave trade that was interesting. We probably spent an hour or less at the fort.

If you're in the area and enjoy history it's worth stopping at. I enjoyed it, but it was average at best.

Built in 1760, this fort is now a National Historic Landmark. The one-time Danish coastal fortress houses historic artifacts pertaining to Virgin Islands' history. The fort was the site of a major emancipation rally to free slaves in 1848.

If you just have a day to spend here, the beach is the place to go. You will pass this fort on your way to the beach, when we were there is appeared to be in the process of some renovation, and we were unable to go inside. That being said, the beach nearby is lovely, the waterfront is clean, pretty, and has lots of places to sit. You could walk on the paths for miles. It is a pretty and quiet little town with a nice beach.
