Overview
More
Estate Whim has long been known for its colonial-era Great House, slave quarters, and mill factory complex; but much more can be found on the museum’s twelve acres. Various museum exhibits include My Granny House, the Living Museum, and rotating exhibits in the North and South Exhibit Halls. Also located on the museum’s grounds is the Research Library & Archives, where visitors can conduct genealogical and historical research and purchase photographs from our unique photograph collection.

We've seen lots of sugar mills in our travels over the years, but we've never been on a tour of one. We just happened to drive past this and decided to stop... on a "Whim" (pun intended). This was the most wonderful tour simply for...More

We spent several hours at Estate Whim Museum. The exhibits were well done. The women demonstating candy making and rag rug making were wonderful. We learned about their personal experiences and well as historical aspects of the tasks which they were demonstrating. There was a...More

Am giving 1 star because there was no one from the museum to show us around even though Viking had booked a tour of the place. Instead, our taxi driver had to do the best he could to show us around himself. The place was...More

We just visited from the parking lot. Damage to trees. The great house is covered with tarps. Sad to think this wonderful historic landmark has been damaged. Hopefully repairs will be made soon.

This is a very casual and not very large group of buildings dating back to the time when almost all of St Croix was sugar cane plantations. Well done, but not like a major museum, the displays and artifacts provide much insight into the lives...More

Estate Whim is now in decay but perhaps this is fitting...the stories of the inhabitants live on in the interpretations spoken, sung and written. We enjoyed tasting food and drink, listening to music and strolling through the facility with our interpreter We came away with...More

This is our third year on St. Croix, but the first visit to Whim. Because of hurricane Maria last fall, I don’t know if the visit would have been different before this. You cannot go beyond the doorway to the great house...it has some blue...More

Perhaps my expectations were too high, but the Whim Museum was underwhelming. The main house is moldy, no longer has furniture and can only be viewed behind a rope. The tour was a fairly good 5 minute Introductory overview. The only other woman on the...More

A neat experience if you are into historical perspectives (I am). The main house is in very bad need of a new roof, and we donated to assist in the effort. Such places should be preserved. My wife and I enjoyed "Grandma" who was quite...More

It is not within walking distance. Maybe a 10 minute drive from pier. Tout itself doesn't take but 30 minutes, however there are ruins and buildings you can look at also.

I also had a car but a taxi would be reasonable - the Whim estate isn't that far from the pier. I didn't go to the botanical garden (St. George's, I think), but I heard great things about it. I think they're fairly close... More
