One of the highlights of our trip was when we stopped in at Chaney Chicks and spoke to Gretchen, one of the owners. Gretchen shared her knowledge and passion and pointed us to the right beach to find our own sea glass. After spending a lovely morning sea glass "fishing", we returned to Chaney Chicks and met Denise, the other owner. Denise is just as fabulous as Gretchen and wrapped our treasures in silver wire. She also shared her passion and expertise, sending us out yet again to hunt for treasure. These two special ladies made our trip to St. Croix very memorable and FUN! Thank you Denise and Gretchen (and Linda on Wednesday) for being such great ambassadors and teaching us something new. Go in, talk to these ladies, you won't regret it.

We were surprised how little was open. We did a little shopping but would have done more if additional shops were open. We realize it was not the height of tourism season but still thought more would be open. We enjoyed walking the boardwalk. We also enjoyed seeing the old buildings which reminded us somewhat of the French Quarter in New Orleans.

St.Croix, the largest US Virgin island, was settled by the Danes and offers interesting architecture. Don't miss this beautiful island with respectful, friendly natives and no tax!
I took a day trip on Sweeny's Safari Tours that leaves from downtown Christiansted. It stops at some of the hotels and resorts, but I got it opposite the Government House. (The tours are the best way for sightseeing unless you feel comfortable driving on the left side of the road.) There were about 8 people on the interesting looking "bus". We went to the Botanical Garden, Whim Plantation, Frederiksted-the other city on St. Croix- the Rum Factory where we were given a choice of 2 drinks, Rain Forest, and passed the Carambola Golf Course and Columbus' Landing.
It was a very interesting 6-hour tour and we even saw a mongoose run across the road. Everyone on the tour agreed it was well worth it and more than met my expectations.

The Rude Locals here HATE tourists. Hate White people. They say to be sure to tell them Good Morning!! Why do I need to be so nice to Terribly Rude and selfish people? The customer service here.... Favorite word....." NO" The Restaurants that are operated by NON-Locals, are fine. Everywhere else on this island is terrible. 1 block in from the beach and you will be in the Ghetto Slums.
Praying that you don't get robbed or shot. Forget going to ANY store after dark.
Oh,,,,,, The bad ones usually are up all night. so morning isn't safe either.
DO NOT WALK ANYWHERE!!!!! No matter what time of day. Ive been living here for 6 months Govt here is corrupt...….Police is govt.
The locals here want all the tourist to go away so they can return to an Agricultural Island. Smoke weed all day and just hang out. Not sure who will run the farms for them...……. They don't want you here.
Want a nice Beach Vacation? Go to Florida.

We stopped in Christiansted for an hour of shopping while on a tour. It is pretty and quaint.
We enjoyed strolling down by the water. We stopped for some ice cream. We finally found a gift shop and I bought a beautiful hook bracelet made by a local artisan.
Everyone was very friendly and no one hassled us to buy anything.
We enjoyed our stop but there is very limited shopping compared to other ports.

We walked around, window shopped, while my brother pointed out historic spots. My son stopped in a tourist shop like you see everywhere to get his dad a souvenir. Friendly feeling.

Excellent boardwalk, modern and safe, with lots of activities to choose from - bars, restaurants, water excursions, shops. This was fun and relaxing and you won't have major pain in the wallet after a trip here. There is some public parking for free near Angry Nates. If you can attend a "Jump Up" (a night time street party occurring about once every two months) that is a huge bonus!

The Markets of Christiansted are Great.
NOT a Money Pit (like down town St. Thomas), very relaxed shopping and wonderful bargains.
Love walking the shops of Christiansted and you would too.

Arriving at Christiansted after some 40 minutes of dull, quite boring drive, to be honest, the first impression of Christiansted, is very promising. It looks so much nicer than everything you see on the way coming from Frederiksted. We came with a shuttle on the 'fast' way. Probably the right way is to come via scenic road of the Rain Forest which visits also the supposedly beautiful bays of the northern shores. But a very unfair Taxi Driver/Tour Guide left us and another family wait for over an hour and a half ("I'm just waiting 5 more minutes for 2/4 people who promised to come"). So at some point we had enough. Then, we were told that if come independently (and much cheaper) to Christiansted, we'll be still able to get a boat ride to the fantastic Buck Island Reef, and still be back on time to our ship. So we took the shuttle, only to find out, in Christiansted, that you have to book the tour WAY IN ADVANCE. We almost had "beginner's luck" because they had one vacancy, but we were two. So no luck. Big disappointment.
So we roamed the small town and its shores. The waters were beautiful, but the heat and the fact that there was no alternatives for short boat rides, nor for snorkeling drove us quite soon to take the shuttle back to Frederiksted. First island. Almost total lost. Good Lesson for the next days.

The shops are very clean, prices are good. Enjoyed walking the pier all the way around. Plenty of food/bar options and open air seating to enjoy the views of the water/boats. National Park service has an information center provides maps/guides for the fort and shopping. We were taking photos under the bridge of the St. Croix hotel and the manager spotted us and invited us in for a tour. John was a super nice guy allowed us to view the banquet area that was set up for a party. They then gave us a tour of the hotel and told us about the dining options there. Such friendly people. Only negative was we were told the cab ride there would be a mini tour included in the shuttle ride. The driver had no idea on the island history other than that all positives. Beautiful island!
