The S/V ATABEYRA is a 69', traditionally rigged trading schooner that retired from cargo service almost 20 years ago. The vessel traded for years between Hispaniola and the Turks & Caicos Islands carrying such commodities as rum , beer, produce, plants, building materials and even a few critters. The ship has been refit as a charter vessel and now stays close to home in the sheltered waters of Grace Bay and the Caicos Cays of Turks and Caicos Islands. The S/V ATABEYRA is the perfect platform for learning hands on operation of traditional sailing craft, for exploring the exquisite undersea world and many islands that surround us or just lounging on her spacious, shaded decks. No vessel in the TCI charter fleet is as large or as versatile. Sun Charters and the ATABEYRA crew offer our guests a unique opportunity to get real sailing experience aboard the last of the tropical trading schooners. Being a gaff-rigged vessel carrying two headsails, there are lots of lines to pull, many sails to tend, and the skipper will even be happy to let you take the helm. Feel the past come alive as we sail through the uninhabited chain of Caicos Cays the same way it was done hundreds of years ago. The Cays were once the lair of the infamous lady pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Reid, and the waters and surrounding islands remain basically untouched since that time. The Crew of the Good Ship Atabeyra are proud that she is overwhelmingly the boat the residents choose when recreating in the Caicos Cays.

We took a half day snorkeling trip from 10am-2:30pm and had a blast! The boat and the crew (Captain Matt, Junior and Willy) were really nice, with great great service and smiles. We were a group of 5 friends and there were about 15 guests on the boat. It was not crowded at all and it was very comfortable. We... More

We had such an amazing time on the Friday evening sunset cruise! Highly recommend making this part of your trip. So enjoyed the sail, the views, and chatting with Jenny and the other guests. Can't wait to go back!

We can't say enough good things about Captain Matt, Junior & Willie and the good ship Atabeyra. We booked on short notice for a "public sail" on Saturday, and the crew were still getting her ready when we were dropped off at the dock along with about 15 fellow guests. She's a big ship - there was lots of room... More

If your looking for a boating excursion that isn't a party boat this is the one for you. The public snorkel goes out on Thursdays from 10 am to 2:30 pm. The boat itself is beautiful and very spacious for guests not to be on top of each other and relax. The beanbag chairs were very comfortable for lounging in... More

Sailing on The Atabeyra was a highlight of our family vacation in Providenciales! We had 6 adults and 2 children, ages 3 and 5, that were absolutely thrilled with this sailing excursion. The crew, the scenery, and the whole experience was second to none! We booked the Thursday public sail...fantastic! It made us want more. Next time we want to... More

Just spent week on Provo. 13yo daughter and I did the mid-day public sail on Thursday. It was spectacular! The views and water were gorgeous, of course, but the ship herself was beautiful. We had 20 or so people comfortably on it with plenty of room in both sun and shade. Dolphins came and played by the boat. The crew... More

Wonderful half-day sailing and snorkeling with family. Kids aged 10 and 12 were able to enjoyed the snorkeling off the reef....visibility was good.. life-jackets are available for all sizes. We brought our own snorkeling gear, but not necessary. There were kids younger then ours, enjoying this activity. The highlight for the kids, was beaching the boat on a smaller "island"... More

I scheduled this tour upon the recommendation of other reviewers online, and it was well worth it. The captain and crew were not only courteous and helpful, they also spent a lot of time chatting with us about their adventures. Very interesting.

We took the sunset glow worm tour and it was amazing! The sailboat was clean (the bathroom isn't the greatest but serves the purpose) and included all you can drink. They served chips and salsa and played good music during the cruise. Although we saw a few glow worms, it was spectacular!!! And don't forget to look up at the... More
