- TriniSultressToronto, Canada574 contributionsNice experienceMy partner and I attended Sunday School on the last Sunday of January. We got there early and there was a performance going on stage. The performance was catered more to the tourist ie teaching then the dollar whine. We watched for a bit from the boardwalk. My partner and I checked out the different food tents/trucks offered. The people who were running the shark and bake tent were a bit rude so we decided to order bbq chicken & macaroni pie from another tent and also some chicken wings from the food truck and it tasted pretty good. When the DJs started the party the music was really good and we danced the night away. Very old school vibes.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 February 2024
- freddiedoncasterStockton-on-Tees, United Kingdom2,639 contributionsA LITTLE DIFFERENT NINE YEARS ONWe came here in 2015 and there was more going on then, than there was in 2024. The locals blame Covid. In 2015 local people would set up makeshift barbecues in their front gardens , their garages would be transformed into bars, but unfortunately this authenticity has long gone. There are a few street food vans, and a few bars open, the steel pan band still play, and their idea of roulette is still going, if you fancy a flutter. We ate at Millers restaurant by the small harbour, expensive, but an experience. All in all a good night, but for me there was something lacking from my memory of 2015.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 18 March 2024
- HannahGreat Dunmow, United Kingdom2 contributionsA fun evening out in Tobago! We arrived about an hour before the steel band started. There was loud music playing over speakers and the vibe was fun. We had a few drinks from the little bar and some local cuisine from the street food vendors. We tried the crab and dumplings which we were a bit disappointed with. We removed our jewellery and split our cash between us on the advice of the hotel but the ‘threat’ of pick pockets didn’t feel any different from any other busy event. The steel band started just after 9 and it was great. Lots of songs we recognised and lots of smiley faces. We left at 10.30 as we had a babysitter at the hotel. We’d pre-booked a taxi back. The music wasn’t quite finished and I think we’d all have liked to have stayed a bit longer. It was quite touristy when we were there but I got the impression more locals would join later. Our friends had taken their young children along (separately from us) I think it was a bit loud and late for them but there were other children around the age of 8/10 who is was a bit more suitable for. I wouldn’t be concerned about taking my children from a safety perspective (age 3 and 6). I just think it would have been too loud.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 6 April 2024

This tour was provided by Dexter from Island Man Tour (top notch). This was a neat event. Brought to a town square where there was steel pan music plus a DJ, a few merchandise and food vendors, on site bar plus a few more within 2 min walk. I believe this event runs from about 9pm - 4am. I would revisit, good times 👍

We went to hear steel pan music. Sunday School is recommended as the place to go to watch and listen to steel pan bands . The night we were there only one man was playing one steel drum….very disappointing. As a place to hang out, listen to music that is way to loud and watch the locals it was ok…..but not what was advertised.

A good night out down at Buccoo. Live music from steel drum band and a duo of sax and steel drum. A great vibe and atmosphere. Bar and food stalls to suit all tastes. Everyone dancing, singing and getting into the party vibe.

Buccoo Sunday School was one of the things we came to see in T&T. We read about it but not all facts on the Internet were correct. The concert started 9.15p.m. and ended before 10.30p.m. We had organized our taxi back to our hotel at 11p.m. so we didn't have a lot time after the concert. There were quite a lot of people there in the end. There was not that much dancing afterwards but maybe it was just getting started when we had to go. So if you organize a taxi have it later than we did if you have your dancing shoes on.
The music was really loud before the concert. The organizers have to do something about that. It would also be nice if they had a firm timetable when they start. It wasn't that nice to wait one and a half hours.
There were a few food trucks behind the square. Had a greasy dinner with a plastic fork. The restaurant upstairs was really expensive. We only saw the menu there. We felt safe the whole time.
This is a thing to remember in Tobago! Go and see the steelorchestra!

And we stayed about a block away! Yes, it was late Yes, it was loud (after the pan band). My husband heard it all night, but didn't wear the ear plugs I brought (his own fault). I had no problem sleeping. Still, we are in our late 60's, but I was NOT going to miss this famous activity. We got there early, so had seats on the 2nd row. So much fun to watch everyone, some dancing, some drinking waaaay too much at the bar, but no problems. Street food is available, but the lines were long, FYI. Not to be missed, for sure. There is a bar across the street called Sunday School. This is not where the weekly event is. It is behind the little shopping area across the street.

What a blast, we went to Sunday School not knowing what to expect. We heard that it was a big party although in reality it is just 2 bars palying very loud music with loads of tourists on the streets. This does not take away from the enjoyment as there are enough local tobagians to make it feel authentic. There are a few stalls selling jewellery, crafts and trinkets which can be found alomost anywhere on the island, although Sunday School is a place where you pick up other things, if you are into that sort of thing. There is hot food available in a few locations, though after midnight a burger stand was all that was available. We had hot dogs which were gorgeous and only $8TT each. At the start of the night there was a steel band playing, which then turned into a DJ with differnt MC's and singers. We also tried the Original Sunday School called Hendrix which also had very loud music and nice place to listen to soca and reggae. Overall it has been the latest night out we've had, got home about 4am. We're normally in bed by 11pm! A brillant night had by all and lots of fun. Great place to meet people. Totally safe, just a big party in the street with loads of alcohol and everybody enjoying themselves. We had arranged transfers to and from Sunday School though Woodys Tours at Turtle Beach, who checked in on us every 15-20 mins to check we were ok. We were able to go home when we wanted to without any bother. We met another tour guide called Keith (A-Team Tours - ateamtobago@hotmail.com) who took us to the carnival previously. Keith is a gentleman and if you book Sunday School with him , he will stay with you the whole night to guarantee your safety and you will feel safe with him, he is a body builder, loads of muscles!
