We hired a local guide for a tour of the island and it was well worth it because the fort was closed when we showed up but he talked to the ladies at the entrance and they opened the fort up for us. We felt bad for being the only ones there so we were quick to go through it but the staff was informative, there was quite a bit to explore compared to Fort Fincastle, and the view of downtown was decent. If you have to pick a fort while in Nassau, this should be your stop. The parking lot if up a bit of a hill and there are souvenir huts right at the parking lot but we were able to get some good deals on conch shells.

Steep road up. Lovely views once you get there over to the port, leper pool, mountains and coast-side food processing factory. Canons point inland to defend against inland attack. Has been a leper colony, mental hospital and prison. Is now home to Fort Charlotte Light and coastguard. Although there are a lot of walls there isn't any information so don't need to spend long here.

The drive up to this fort is breathtaking, too. It's not far from the parking area to get inside. We were not charged any entrance fee.

I'm glad we took the advice to get a taxi up there. The road is steep and lacks sidewalks and the weather was hot when we visited. Once up, we were rewarded with panoramic views of the city and sea. It's not a big fortress, but it's strategically placed. It's good for a quick photo stop.

Interesting tour of well preserved Fort by Top Dawg. We were able to go into the Fort and see where lepers and other undesirables were imprisoned. Canons bore the insignia of King George. Worth the visit .

A good photo stop with commanding views of the island. Other than that, its a little history lesson in how the island changed hands between the British and the French.

It's interesting to note that the canons on the fort weren't protecting the bay and aren't facing outwards, but are facing inwards towards land as the British wanted to keep the local rebels away.

Interesting learning more about Fort Charlotte and the history of the Island. Inside the building are historical pics about the Black Caribs.

Our tour guide (Swazo) took us up to and through this old fort. It has a great view of the harbor for Kingstown. The Harbor is controlled by a 24/7 staff from one of the old battlements. We toured through where the prisoners were held and their exercise yard. It was built to LAST !

Fort Charlotte is a British-colonial era fort, built on a hill over-looking the harbour. At a height of 600ft the views are very impressive and you get a panoramic view of the Leeward side of the island, including Kingstown. Some of the old barracks (the officers’ quarters) now house a small museum with a colourful painted history of the Black Caribs which is well worth viewing. The lined up canons make a good photo opportunity as they offer their endless vigil of the ramparts. You can walk up but personally I would recommend a vehicle!
