Typical small town

Walking from Buccament Bay you get some lovely views back to the resort. You experience the vast difference in the houses from tin shacks to some up market residences at the far end of the bay. Nothing great to see but you experience some of the true atmosphere of St Vincent.

Proper St Vincent

Although St Vincent isn't spoilt by tourism this is a little gem. Colourful houses on the hillside, stone churches and interesting buildings. Great for taking photos. Genuinely friendly people. A breath of fresh air.

Walking Trip

We walked hare from Buccament Bay resort. It was a 45 minute saunter taking pictures on the way. There is a cashpoint where you can get EC$ not US$. you can't get US$ on the island. We had a mooch around and had a drink at a bar on the main street. Everybody was friendly and welcoming

Walk to Layou Village

Decided to explore so left the Resort we were staying at and walked into Layou. Very interesting walk and so glad we did it. Friendly and polite locals going about their daily business. Giving you a first hand insight into their lives. Friendly people where ever you went.Eager to talk and help with anything even asking you to come in. Very safe, a few local bars and shops dotted along the way. A good experience if your in the area. There is one hilly part but the views are also great from here.

A photographer's dream....colourful wooden house, old stone churches, traditional character!

Layou is located on the western side of the island, on the stretch of coast between the small fishing village of Buccament and the town of Barrouallie, where the Black Fish is caught.
It was one of the first areas of the island to be settled by the French, being occupied by the British in the 1760’s to produce sugar.

Layou was occupied even before modern civilisation as evidenced by the Petroglyphs that are supposedly done by the Amerindians with many guidebooks saying they’re more than 2,000 years old!

The houses are still mainly ramshackle, colourful wooden houses, some two-story with a few stone buildings. On the approach into Layou there are narrow residential lanes which are very quaint. Layou is a traditional, quiet island village with a truly laid-back vibe. Very pretty!
If you’re with a private taxi, ask him to stop so you can walk around and take in the scenery. Layou is a very special place indeed.
